Phil Berger (politician)
Philip Edward Berger (born August 8, 1952) is a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's thirtieth Senate district, which includes Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, and Surry counties. An attorney born in New York, Berger was first elected to the North Carolina Senate in 2000. He became minority leader in 2004, and in 2010, he was selected by his fellow Republicans as their choice for the next Senate President Pro Tem. Berger was officially elected president Pro Tem when the legislature opened on January 26, 2011. Early life and education Berger was born in New Rochelle, New York; he graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia, in 1970 and studied briefly at Danville Community College. Craven earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Career In 2016, Craven became a board member of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. On June 30, 2020, North Carolina State Senator Jerry W. Tillman resigned from his position, both as a state senator, and as the Republican nominee in the general election for the same position. Lincoln County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 86,810. Its county seat is Lincolnton.
