Natalie S. Murdock is an American politician, Co-Chair of the North Carolina Future Caucus under the Millennial Action Project and a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the North Carolina Senate. Upon being sworn in, she became the first black woman under the age of 40 to serve in the NC Senate. Early life Murdock was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Christine and Harold Murdock, a veteran and social worker who inspired her to pursue a career in politics. Henry McKinley "Mickey" Michaux Jr. (born September 4, 1930) is an American civil rights activist and United States Democratic Party, Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He represented the state's thirty-first House district from 1983 to 2019 and previously served from 1973 through 1977. Jeanne Hopkins Lucas
Jeanne Hopkins Lucas (December 25, 1935 - March 9, 2007) was the first African-American woman elected to serve in North Carolina's state Senate. Lucas was born in Durham, North Carolina to Robert Hopkins and Bertha Holman Hopkins. She attended East End Elementary School, Whitted Junior High School, and Hillside High School, where she graduated in 1953. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages at North Carolina Central University, where she was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
