Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. North Battleford
North Battleford is a city in west-central Saskatchewan, Canada. It is the seventh largest city in the province and is directly across the North Saskatchewan River from the Town of Battleford. Together, the two communities are known as "The Battlefords". North Battleford borders the Rural Municipality of North Battleford No. 437, as well as the North Battleford Crown Colony (census subdivision). The Battlefords are served by the Yellowhead Highway and Highway 4, Highway 26, Highway 29, and Highway 40. Battlefords Provincial Park is north on Highway 4. The Battlefords (provincial Electoral District)
The Battlefords is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. It includes the city of North Battleford and the adjoining town of Battleford. Collectively these communities are commonly known as "The Battlefords". The district was first established in 1917 from the urban portions of the constituencies of Battleford and North Battleford. The district was contested in every election until 1995, when it was broken up into the re-created district of North Battleford and a new district, Battleford-Cut Knife. It was most recently contested in the 2020 election, when Saskatchewan Party candidate Jeremy Cockrill was elected. North Battleford and Battleford-Cut Knife were abolished in 2003 and The Battlefords re-established as an electoral district. Douglas Anguish
Douglas Keith Anguish (born 8 July 1950) was a Canadian politician, consultant and political assistant. He served as a New Democratic Party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was elected at The Battlefords—Meadow Lake electoral district in the 1980 federal election and served in the 32nd Canadian Parliament. He left politics following the 1984 federal election in which he was defeated by John Kenneth Gormley of the Progressive Conservative party. In the 1986 Saskatchewan provincial election, Anguish won the North Battleford riding for the provincial NDP. He was re-elected there in 1991 when the NDP's Roy Romanow became premier. The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. The name was changed to the Saskatchewan Grain Growers' Association (SGGA) when Saskatchewan became a province in 1905.
