North Alabama Lions Baseball
The North Alabama Lions baseball team represents the University of North Alabama, which is located in Florence, Alabama. The Lions are an NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the ASUN Conference. They began competing in Division I in 2019 and joined the ASUN Conference the same season. The North Alabama Lions play all home games on campus at Mike D. Lane Field. Under the direction of Head Coach Mike Keehn, the Lions are transitioning from Division II to Division I and are not eligible for postseason play. In the program's 35 years in Division II, the Lions played in 12 NCAA Tournaments and advanced to the College World Series once in 1999. Since the program's inception in 1932, 5 Lions have gone on to play in Major League Baseball, highlighted by 3-time World Series champion and 2013 All-Star Sergio Romo. Jad Prachniak
Jad Prachinak (born August 5, 1981) is a baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the North Alabama Lions. He played college baseball at Rhode Island from 2001 to 2004. He served as the head coach of the West Chester Golden Rams (2012–2020). Playing career Prachniak grew up in Lincoln, Rhode Island, where he attended Lincoln High School, where he was a letterwinner for the Lions in baseball. Prachniak would go on to pitch for the Rams, bouncing back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. He made 14 starts for the Rams, pitching to a 4–5 win–loss record with a 6.04 earned run average. Coaching career Prachniak began his coaching career immediately following his playing career. He served as a volunteer assistant for Rhode Island as well as the pitching coach for The Prout School, while finishing up his degree in 2005. 2018 Major League Baseball Draft
The 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft began on June 4, 2018. The draft assigned amateur baseball players to MLB teams. The draft order was determined based on the reverse order of the 2017 MLB season final standings. In addition, compensation picks were distributed for players who did not sign from the 2017 MLB Draft and for teams who lose qualifying free agents. The first 43 picks, including the first round and compensatory picks, were broadcast by MLB Network on June 4. The remainder of the draft was streamed on MLB.com on June 5 and 6. With a tie for the worst record in the 2017 MLB season at 64–98, the Detroit Tigers received the first overall pick ahead of the San Francisco Giants via a tiebreaker. List Of NCAA Division I Baseball Programs
The following is a list of schools that participate in NCAA Division I baseball. In the 2022 season, 301 Division I schools competed. These teams compete to go to the 64-team Division I baseball tournament and then to Omaha, Nebraska, and Charles Schwab Field, for the eight-team Men's College World Series (MCWS). Conference affiliations are current for the coming 2023 NCAA baseball season. Years of conference changes, indicated in footnotes, reflect baseball seasons, which take place in the calendar year after a conference change takes effect. Joshua David Willingham (born February 17, 1979) is a former American professional baseball left fielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Florida Marlins, Washington Nationals, Oakland Athletics, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals. The ASUN Conference, formerly the Atlantic Sun Conference, is a collegiate athletic conference operating mostly in the Southeastern United States.
