Norra begravningsplatsen, literally "The Northern Cemetery" in Swedish, is a major cemetery of the Stockholm urban area, located in Solna Municipality. Inaugurated on 9 June 1827, it is the burial site for a number of Swedish notables. Solna Municipality
Solna Municipality ( sv, Solna kommun or , ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in Sweden, located just north of Stockholm City Centre. Its seat is located in the town of Solna, which is a part of the Stockholm urban area. Solna is one of the richest municipalities in Sweden. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. None of the area is considered rural, which is unusual for Swedish municipalities, which normally are of mixed rural/urban character. Solna is the third smallest municipality in Sweden in terms of area. Solna borders Stockholm Municipality to the south, southeast and northwest; to Sundbyberg Municipality to the west; to Sollentuna Municipality to the north; and to Danderyd Municipality to the northeast. Ulla Billquist
Ulla Ebba Ingegerd Billquist, (née Schönström 14 August 1907 – 6 July 1946), was a Swedish female schlager singer. She was mostly successful during the early 1940s. Personal life Ulla Billquist married three times; firstly from 1926 to 1934 to the actor Fritiof Billquist (1901–1972), then to the director Wolmar Sjögren (1901–1974) from 1936 to 1942, and finally to the composer, accordionist and the pianist Gunnar Hahn (1908–2001) in 1943 until her death. At the time of her death, she has been separated from her third husband, Gunnar Hahn since the winter of 1946. Allvar Gullstrand
Allvar Gullstrand (5 June 1862 – 28 July 1930) was a Swedish ophthalmologist and optician. Life Born at Landskrona, Sweden, Gullstrand was professor (1894–1927) successively of eye therapy and of optics at the University of Uppsala. He applied the methods of physical mathematics to the study of optical images and of the refraction of light in the eye. For this work, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1911. Gullstrand is noted also for his research on astigmatism and for improving the ophthalmoscope and corrective lenses for use after removal of a cataract from the eye. He was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1905, and served on the Academy's Prize Committee for Physics. While serving on the committee, he used his position to block Albert Einstein from receiving a Nobel Prize in Physics for his theory of relativity, which Allvar believed to be wrong. Isaac Grünewald
Isaac Grünewald (2 September 1889 – 22 May 1946) was a Swedish-Jewish expressionist painter born in Stockholm. He was the leading and central name in the first generation of Swedish modernists from 1910 up until his death in 1946, in other words during almost his entire career spanning four decades. He was a highly productive painter as well as a writer and public speaker. Biography Having studied at an influential Swedish art school for three years, at age 19 Grünewald travelled with his friends Einar Jolin and Einar Nerman to Paris where they soon began studies at Henri Matisse's academy. In 1909 he gained recognition in his homeland when he exhibited his work with a group of Scandinavian artists known as The Young Ones. Knut Frænkel
Knut Hjalmar Ferdinand Frænkel (14 February 1870 – c. 10 October 1897) was a Swedish engineer and arctic explorer who perished in the Arctic balloon expedition of 1897 of S. A. Andrée in 1897. Biography Frænkel was born in Karlstad, Sweden. He was a major in the Road and Waterway Construction Service Corps, and grew up in mountainous Jämtland in the eastern middle part of Sweden, where he acquired an interest in outdoor activities and sports. He later went to the Palmgren School in Stockholm and graduated with a civil engineering degree from the Royal Institute of Technology in 1896, and was preparing himself to enter the Army engineers when the chance came up in 1897 to join S. A. Andrée's planned balloon expedition to the North Pole. The third participant was Nils Strindberg. Karin Fjällbäck-Holmgren
Katarina (Karin) Helena Fjällbäck-Holmgren (1881–1963) was a Swedish politician who was active in the areas of social welfare and women's suffrage. She served as secretary and deputy chair of the Stockholm branch of the National Association for Women's Suffrage (LKPR). Politically liberal, she was active on several of the Liberal Party's committees and from 1919 participated enthusiastically in municipal council meetings. She served on Stockholm's public school directorate in the 1920s and from 1931 chaired the city's welfare agency for children. Frans Gösta Viktor Ekman (28 December 1890 – 12 January 1938) was a Swedish actor, director and singer. Generally spoken of as Swedish theatre's most legendary stage actor, Gösta Ekman enjoyed a prolific stage career during his short life, becoming the first real star of Swedish theatre. Richard Dybeck
Richard Dybeck (1 September 1811 – 28 July 1877) was a Swedish jurist, antiquarian, and lyricist. He is mainly remembered as the author of the lyrics to what is now the de facto Swedish national anthem, '' Du gamla, Du fria''. Biography Dybeck was born in the rectory of Odensvi parish, just outside the town of Köping in Västmanland, Sweden. He was the son of a clergyman, went to gymnasium in Västerås, and later matriculated at Uppsala University in 1831 with a law degree. He completed his civil service degree in law () in 1834 and entered the Svea Court of Appeal (). He held a number of positions in the court system during the following years, but eventually began to spend all his time on his antiquarian and historical research, not least in the field of runestones. Isak Gustaf Clason
Isak Gustaf Clason (30 July 1856 Falun – 19 July 1930 Rättvik) was a Swedish architect. Biography Clason studied engineering and later architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, where he was a student of Albert Theodor Gellerstedt (1836-1914), and later at the architectural school of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts, at the time headed by Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander (1816-1881). Augusta Christie-Linde
Augusta Maria Christie-Linde née Ärnbåack-Andersson (1870–1953) was a Swedish zoologist, museum curator and educator. An active member of the zoological research community at Stockholm College from the early 1900s, she was the first woman to be appointed to a teaching position there and went on to earn a doctorate in 1908. She became a specialist in marine fauna, especially ascidians, and was recognized as one of the leading experts in the field. Vice Admiral Charles Léon de Champs (10 October 1873 – 17 February 1959) was a Swedish Navy officer who was the Chief of the Naval Staff from 1936 to 1937 and the Chief of the Navy from 1936 to 1939.
