Norman Oliver (greyhound Trainer)
Norman Oliver (1927-2012), was an English greyhound trainer. He was 1973 UK Trainer of the Year. Profile Oliver became involved in greyhound racing through his father Ted Oliver who was a bookmaker. Norman was attached to Brough Park in Newcastle during the entire training career. Oliver's first success was winning the 1962 Midland Flat at Hall Green Stadium, with Happy Sailor. The following year he won several events and reached a major final when he steered Super Car through to the 1963 Scottish Greyhound Derby. In 1967 he won his first major event when Hi Ho Silver won the Scottish Derby. An English Greyhound Derby finalist followed in 1968 when Shady Begonia reached the final. Shady Begonia also won the BBC Sportsview Television Trophy, the Regency and reached the Cesarewitch final but it was Ramdeen Stuart that was his star greyhound. A greyhound trainer is a person who trains greyhounds for racing. This involves exercising, feeding, and grooming them in addition to keeping the greyhound in race condition to enable the greyhound to race to the best of its ability. Malcolm Jefferson
Joseph Malcolm Jefferson (1 December 1946 – 2 February 2018) was a British horse trainer who specialized in training horses competing in National Hunt racing. Jefferson was born in Penrith and worked as travelling head lad to Gordon W. Richards between 1968 and 1981. He began training in 1981 and registered his first winner in a bumper at Perth in September of that year. He continued to train from stables at Norton, North Yorkshire until his death. Jefferson's most notable successes were gained by Dato Star, who won the Champion Bumper in 1995 and the Christmas Hurdle in 1999. In 2012 he achieved the notable feat of a "double double" at the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Festival, winning races with Cape Tribulation and Attaglance at both meetings. Tommy Stack
Tommy Stack (born 15 November 1945 in Moyvane, County Kerry, Ireland) is a former National Hunt racing jockey and trainer. As a jockey, he is probably best known for piloting Red Rum to a third Grand National victory. Stack was National Hunt Champion Jockey for the 1974–75 and 1976-77 seasons. He got his first trainer's licence in 1986. In 1994 he trained Las Meninas to win the 1000 Guineas. His other major winners include Tarascon (Irish 1000 Guineas) and Kostroma ( Beverly D. Stakes). Stack survived a life-threatening viral infection in December 1998. Following his recovery, he had further international success with Myboycharlie (Prix Morny) and Alexander Tango (Garden City Stakes). He trained at Golden, County Tipperary and retired as a trainer at the end of the 2016 flat racing season, handing over the licence to his son, James "Fozzy" Stack. Jonjo O'Neill
John Joseph "Jonjo" O'Neill (born 13 April 1952) is an Irish National Hunt racehorse trainer and former jockey. He is a native of Castletownroche, County Cork in Ireland. Based at the Jackdaws Castle training establishment in England. O'Neill twice won the British Champion Jockey title (1977-78 & 1979-80) and won the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the mare, Dawn Run who became the only horse to complete the double of winning the Champion Hurdle and the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. Terry McDermott
Terence McDermott (born 8 December 1951) is an English former football midfielder who was a member of the Liverpool team of the 1970s and early 1980s, in which he won three European Cups and five First Division titles. He was capped 25 times for England, and has had an extensive coaching career with Newcastle United (twice), Huddersfield Town and more recently, as assistant manager of Birmingham City. Kevin Keegan
Joseph Kevin Keegan (born 14 February 1951) is an English former footballer and manager. A forward, he played for several professional clubs from 1968 to 1984. Having begun his career at Scunthorpe United, he moved to Liverpool in 1971 and then to Hamburger SV in 1977, enjoying great success at both clubs. During this period, he was a regular member of the England national team. He was twice the winner of the Ballon d'Or. After leaving Hamburg in 1980, he played for Southampton and Newcastle United. Cesarewitch (greyhounds)
The Cesarewitch is a greyhound racing competition held at Crayford Stadium. It was originally one of the classic races held in the British racing calendar and was inaugurated in 1928 and held at West Ham Stadium until its closure in 1972. The event switched to Belle Vue Stadium until 1995 when it was transferred to Greyhound Racing Association (GRA) sister track Catford Stadium. The GRA closed Catford in 2000 and switched the Cesarewitch to their newly-acquired track Oxford Stadium. Despite the event moving four times it remained a major competition until its demise in 2012 at Oxford. In 2020, the competition was brought back by Entain and was held at their stadia of Romford Stadium and Crayford and sponsored by the company's brand Ladbrokes Coral as a category 1 race. The 1968 Greyhound Derby took place during June with the final being held on 22 June 1968 at White City Stadium. English Greyhound Derby
The English Greyhound Derby is the most prestigious race on the British Greyhound racing in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing calendar, with a history stretching back to 1927. It was first held at White City Stadium, but moved to Wimbledon Stadium in 1985, and then Towcester Greyhound Stadium in 2017, Nottingham in 2019 and back to Towcester in 2021. Hall Green Stadium
Hall Green Stadium was a greyhound racing stadium located in the Birmingham suburb of Hall Green, which existed from 1927 until 2017. The track itself was a 412-metre long oval track with a sand covered surface. The capacity of the stadium was between 2,500 and 3,000. Facilities The stadium's main stand facilities included outside terracing along the main straight, fast food outlets, a bar on the first floor, and an indoor seated area with glass frontage overlooking the track on second floor. Also on the second floor was the a la carte restaurant. Executive suites that can hold between 18 and 100 people were located on the first bend of the track.
