A noria ( ar, ناعورة, ''nā‘ūra'', plural ''nawāʿīr'', from syr, ܢܥܘܪܐ, ''nā‘orā'', lit. "growler") is a hydropowered ''scoop wheel'' used to lift water into a small aqueduct (water supply), aqueduct, either for the purpose of irrigation or to supply water to cities and villages. Name and meaning Etymology The word ''noria'' is derived from Arabic ''nā‘ūra'' (ناعورة), which comes from the Arabic verb meaning to "groan" or "grunt", in reference to the sound it made when turning. ''Noria'' versus ''saqiyah'' The term ''noria'' is commonly used for devices which use the power of moving water to turn the wheel. For devices powered by animals, the usual term is ''saqiyah'' or ''saqiya''. Other types of similar devices are grouped under the name of chain pumps. Asher Noria
Asher Noria (born 20 November 1992) is an Indian shooter. He has won several national and international medals for India. He is the only shooter in the world who has won the double trap event of the International Shooting Junior World Cup for two consecutive years. Career Early career (2005–2006) Asher Noria is the son of Gusti Jall Noria, a former double trap specialist from India. He is the younger brother of Youhan Noria, an ex-National shooter. He picked up shooting from his father at a very young age. His mother Mita Noria and father supported him by being there with him when he participated at competitions. Having come from a shooting family, shooting skills came naturally to Noria. As an 11-year-old in 2005, Asher Noria participated in the double trap event. Noria Mabasa
Noria Muelwa Mabasa (née Luvhimbi) (born May 10, 1938) is a South African artist who works primarily in ceramic and wood sculptures. She comes from the Venda ethnic group. Early life Noria Muelwa Luvhimbi was born on May 10, 1938, in Shigalo (Xigalo) village, Limpopo Province (then the Transvaal Province). She was the third child born in her family with two older sisters. In 1955, she married Jim Mabasa. In 1965 Luvhimbi separated from Mabasa after she fell ill with a mysterious illness. Mabasa became impatient with her and eventually ordered her to leave his home, upon which she went back to her birthplace in Shigalo. Career Noria Mabasa completed one year of formal education at a school located three hours walking distance from her childhood home, but had to discontinue schooling because of household chores.
