Nordic Combined At The 1932 Winter Olympics
At the 1932 Winter Olympics one individual Nordic combined event was contested. It was held on Wednesday, February 10, 1932 (cross-country skiing) and on Thursday, February 11, 1932 (ski jumping). Unlike today the ski jump was the last event held. Both events were also individual medal events. Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex
The Lake Placid Olympic Ski Jumping Complex comprises a HS100- and HS128-meter ski jumps towers built for the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York, United States, and modernized and lengthened in 2021, making them the only jumps in North America homologated for winter and summer jumping competitions. They are located two miles from Lake Placid, off the Old Military Road, in Essex County, New York. The complex is operated by the Olympic Regional Development Authority. The sky deck on the 120-meter jump offers views of nearby John Brown's Farm and the surrounding High Peaks of the Adirondacks. Training and competition for Nordic ski jumping takes place year round thanks to a plastic mat out-run on the 90m jump. The Freestyle Aerial Training Center is located to the right of the base of the jump towers. Aerialists can train in the summer months by jumping into a 750,000 gallon pool. František Šimůnek
František Šimůnek (2 December 1910 – 17 July 1989) was a Czechoslovakian Nordic skier who competed in the 1930s. He won a silver medal in the 4 x 10 km at the 1933 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Innsbruck. Šimůnek was born in Zlatá Olešnice in December 1910. He finished 8th in the Nordic combined and 23rd in ski jumping at the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Four years later he finished 5th in both the 4 x 10 km cross-country and the Nordic combined, and 11th in the 18 km cross-country event at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Severino Menardi
Severino Menardi (9 November 1910 – 13 January 1978) was an Italian cross-country skier, Nordic combined skier, and ski jumper who competed in the 1932 Winter Olympics and in the 1936 Winter Olympics. He was born in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Biography In 1932 he finished 21st in the Nordic combined event and 27th in the ski jumping competition. He also participated in the 18 km cross-country skiing event and finished 34th. Four years later he was a member of the Italian relay team which finished fourth in the 4x10 km relay competition. In the 18 km event he finished 16th and in the Nordic combined event he finished 20th. Harald Paumgarten
Harald Paumgarten (4 April 1904 in Graz - 6 February 1952 near Sankt Anton am Arlberg) was an Austrian cross-country skier, ski jumper, and Nordic combined skier who competed in the 1920s and in the 1930s. He competed in the 1928 Winter Olympics and in the 1932 Winter Olympics. In 1928 he finished 17th in the 18 km cross-country skiing event as well as 17th in the Nordic combined competition. Four years later he finished 29th in the shorter cross-country skiing event. In the ski jumping competition he finished 25th and in the Nordic combined event he finished 18th. He won a bronze medal in the 4 x 10 km at the 1933 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Innsbruck.
