At the 1928 Winter Olympics one individual Nordic combined event was contested. It was held on Friday, February 17, 1928 ( cross-country skiing) and on Saturday, February 18, 1928 (ski jumping). Unlike today the ski jump was the last event held. Both events were also individual medal events. Bronisław Czech
Bronisław "Bronek" Czech (; 25 July 1908 – 4 June 1944) was a Polish sportsman and artist. A gifted skier, he won championships of Poland 24 times in various skiing disciplines, including Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and ski jumping. A member of the Polish national team at three consecutive Winter Olympics, he was also one of the pioneers of mountain rescue in the Tatra Mountains and a glider instructor. He was murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Biography Czech was born 25 July 1908Some sources cite 16 August of the same year. in Zakopane, then in Austro-Hungarian Galicia. His parents were Józef Czech and Stanisława née Namysłowska. Gustav "Gustl" Müller (23 October 1903 – 20 September 1989) was a German Nordic combined and cross-country skier. Müller was born in Bayrischzell. Harald Paumgarten
Harald Paumgarten (4 April 1904 in Graz - 6 February 1952 near Sankt Anton am Arlberg) was an Austrian cross-country skier, ski jumper, and Nordic combined skier who competed in the 1920s and in the 1930s. He competed in the 1928 Winter Olympics and in the 1932 Winter Olympics. In 1928 he finished 17th in the 18 km cross-country skiing event as well as 17th in the Nordic combined competition. Four years later he finished 29th in the shorter cross-country skiing event. In the ski jumping competition he finished 25th and in the Nordic combined event he finished 18th. He won a bronze medal in the 4 x 10 km at the 1933 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Innsbruck. Personal life Paumgarten's older brother Fridtjof (1903-1986) won several skiing competitions and was on the 1928 Austrian Olympic team, but did not compete due to a training injury. David Zogg
David Zogg (18 December 1902 – 26 July 1977) was a Swiss alpine and Nordic combined skier. He was raised in Arosa, Switzerland. At the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz he finished 16th in the Nordic combined event. In 1931, he won the first World Championship in Slalom and in 1934, he was World Champion in downhill skiing. In the 1930s, he participated in a few films about skiing. After retiring from ski racing, he was the head of the ski school in Arosa for many years. David Zogg additionally played a role in opening up the exploration of the Himalayas by being appointed the deputy leader of the 1939 Swiss expedition to the Himalayas, undertaken by the Swiss Foundation for Alpine Research.
