Nordic Combined At The 1924 Winter Olympics
At the 1924 Winter Olympics one individual Nordic combined event was contested. It was held on Saturday, February 2, 1924 (cross-country skiing) and on Monday, February 4, 1924 (ski jumping). Unlike today the ski jump was the last event held. Both events were also individual medal events. The winner, Thorleif Haug was also the winner of both cross-country skiing races, and the podium was identical to that in the 50 km cross-country. The Tremplin Olympique du Mont ( en, Olympic jumping hill of Le Mont) was a ski jumping venue constructed for the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France. Jump description The jumper started at a height of 1189.8 m, traveling 79.4 meters while dropping in height to a take off point of 1152.8 meters. Verner Eklöf
Verner Edmund Eklöf (8 March 1897 – 2 December 1955) was a Finnish sportsman active in the 1920s. Career Association football Eklöf played association football at international level, scoring 17 goals in 32 appearances between 1919 and 1927. Eklöf played club football for HIFK and HJK. His move from HIFK to HJK in 1920 is considered the first major transfer in Finnish football history. John Carleton (skier)
John Carleton (September 13, 1899– January 21, 1977) was an American lawyer and competitive skier from New Hampshire. He competed in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined at the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix. He was also a pioneer of alpine skiing in the United States. Scholastics Carleton graduated from Hanover High School, Phillips Academy in Andover, Dartmouth College and Magdalen College, Oxford. While at Dartmouth, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, vice-president of Palaeopitus, vice-president of the Dartmouth Outing Club and member of Cabin and Trail, and the Casque and Gauntlet senior society. In 1922, he won a Rhodes scholarship, and graduated with a law degree from Oxford's Magdalen College in 1925. Anders Haugen
Anders Olsen Haugen (October 24, 1888 – April 14, 1984) was a Norwegian-American ski jumper who won four national ski jumping championships. He competed in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix and the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz. Anders Haugen was the first and, as of 2022, only American to win an Olympic medal for ski jumping. Andrzej Krzeptowski (born 1903)
Andrzej Krzeptowski (29 July 1903 – 26 February 1945) was a Polish skier. He competed for Poland at the 1924 Winter Olympics, finishing 19th in the Nordic combined event, 21st in the ski jumping event, and 28th in the 18 km cross-country skiing event. Krzeptowski also competed for Poland at the 1924 Winter Olympics, finishing 27th in the ski jumping event. Josef Bím
Josef Bím (24 January 1901 – 5 September 1934) was a Czechoslovak soldier and skier. Bím was born in Vysoké nad Jizerou. He was a member of the national Olympic military patrol team in 1924 which placed fourth. Furthermore he finished 13th at the Nordic combined event and 26th at the ski jumping competition. He also took part at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1925 and 1926, where he finished 5th at the Nordic combined event in 1925 and 23rd in 1926. At ski jumping he failed in 1926.
