Nopalera Metro Station
Nopalera metro station is a metro station, station of the Mexico City Metro in the colonia (Mexico), ''colonia'' (neighborhood) of Miguel Hidalgo and the ''barrio'' of Santa Ana Zapotitlán, in Tláhuac, Mexico City. It is an Elevated railway, elevated station with two side platforms, served by Mexico City Metro Line 12, Line 12 (the Golden Line), between Olivos metro station, Olivos and Zapotitlán metro station, Zapotitlán metro stations. The name of the station alludes to the numerous pig and poultry farms that used to occupy the area, and to the Nopal, nopal cactuses that used to grow on their fields. Similarly, the pictogram for the station depicts the outline of a flowering nopal. Mexico City Metro Overpass Collapse
On 3 May 2021, at 22:22 CDT ( UTC−5), an overpass in the borough of Tláhuac carrying Line 12 of the Mexico City Metro collapsed beneath a passing train. The overpass and the last two cars of the train fell onto Tláhuac Avenue near Olivos station, killing 26 people and injuring 98 others. It was the Metro's deadliest accident in almost fifty years. The line experienced technical and structural problems that led to a partial closure of the elevated section where the accident occurred between 2014 and 2015. An earthquake in 2017 further damaged the span; although it was repaired within a few months, residents reported problems still existed years later. 2017 Puebla Earthquake
The 2017 Puebla earthquake struck at 13:14 CDT (18:14 UTC) on 19 September 2017 with an estimated magnitude of and strong shaking for about 20 seconds. Its epicenter was about south of the city of Puebla, Mexico. The earthquake caused damage in the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos and in the Greater Mexico City area, including the collapse of more than 40 buildings. 370 people were killed by the earthquake and related building collapses, including 228 in Mexico City, and more than 6,000 were injured. Mixcoac Metro Station
Mixcoac is a station on Line 7 and Line 12 of the Mexico City Metro. The station serves both lines as a transfer station and as the northwestern terminus of Line 12. Nopal
Nopal (from the Nahuatl word for the pads of the plant) is a common name in Spanish for ''Opuntia'' cacti (commonly referred to in English as ''prickly pear''), as well as for its pads. There are about 114 known species in Mexico, where it is a common ingredient in numerous Mexican cuisine dishes. The nopal pads can be eaten raw or cooked, used in marmalades, soups, stews and salads, as well as being used for traditional medicine or as fodder for animals.
