''Nom de Guerre Cabal'' is the thirty-seventh studio album by Omar Rodríguez-López as a solo artist, released on 2 December 2016. It is his eleventh release in the 12 album series initiated by Ipecac Recordings. Similar to the preceding album ''Zapopan (album), Zapopan'', ''Nom de Guerre Cabal'' features new mixes of previously released songs, this time with all songs having been included on ''¿Sólo Extraño?'', originally released March 8, 2013. Omar Rodríguez-López
Omar Alfredo Rodríguez-López (born September 1, 1975) is an American guitarist and songwriter. He has formed or played in several bands, including the Mars Volta, At the Drive-In, Antemasque, and Bosnian Rainbows. He was the bassist for the dub band De Facto. He has embarked on a solo career, both in studio and in concert, frequently described as experimental, avant-garde, or progressive. He has also collaborated with numerous artists, such as John Frusciante and El-P. Biography Rodríguez-López was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in El Paso, Texas, and spent some of his childhood in South Carolina. He began playing the bass at age 12, but then switched to guitar at 15 because he "needed more strings". Ipecac Recording
Syrup of ipecac (), or simply ipecac, is a drug that was once widely used as an expectorant (in low doses) and a rapid-acting emetic (in higher doses). It is obtained from the dried rhizome and roots of the ipecacuanha plant (''Carapichea ipecacuanha''), from which it derives its name. It is no longer used in medicine. In particular, the rapidly induced forceful vomiting produced by ipecac was considered for many years to be an important front-line treatment for orally ingested poisons. However, subsequent studies (including a comprehensive 2005 meta-study) revealed the stomach purging produced by ipecac to be far less effective at lowering total body poison concentrations than the adsorption effect of oral activated charcoal (which is effective through the entire gastrointestinal tract and is often coupled with whole bowel irrigation). ''Zapopan'' is the thirty-sixth studio album by Omar Rodríguez-López as a solo artist, released on 18 November 2016. It is his tenth release in the 12 album series initiated by Ipecac Recordings. Zapopan features reworked/remixed and re-titled versions of songs which were originally released on ''Saber, Querer, Osar y Callar'' (2012) and ''Unicorn Skeleton Mask'' (2013). The album title refers to the city Rodríguez-López lived in at the time of recording. Most of the remaining songs from ''Unicorn Skeleton Mask'' appeared on ''Zen Thrills'' in 2017. ''Antemasque'' is the only studio album by American band Antemasque, released in 2014. Recording ''Antemasque'' was recorded at The Boat in Silverlake, California. The studio, formerly owned by The Dust Brothers, is currently owned and operated by Flea. Release On April 9, 2014, Antemasque released the album's first single "4AM". ''Rolling Stone'' described the song as "a charging, punkish rocker with the sorts of squiggly noodling that both the Mars Volta guys and Flea have used as calling cards in their respective groups." Crystal Fairy (album)
''Crystal Fairy'' is the eponymous debut album by the rock supergroup Crystal Fairy, released on February 24, 2017 via Ipecac Recordings. Recording The album was reportedly written and recorded in a week, with a fluid and spontaneous process. Osborne and Crover would be in one room working on riffs. Rodríguez-López would be in another working on bass lines, and Suárez would be in another, creating lyrics for demos that had just been tracked. She abandoned her usual, deliberate writing technique in favour of improvisation: "the songs wrote and interpreted themselves." Lyrics and themes Drugs are a recurring theme on the record. Ipecac Recordings
Ipecac Recordings is an independent record label based in California. It was founded on April 1, 1999 by Greg Werckman (ex-label manager of Alternative Tentacles, ex-lead singer of DUH, ex-employee of Mercury Records) and Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and Mondo Cane) in Alameda, California. Originally the label was created for the sole purpose of releasing the first Fantômas album. Deantoni Parks
Deantoni Parks (born November 2, 1977) is an American new wave/avant-garde/experimental musician. He is the co-founder, co-producer and drummer of the New York band KUDU along with artist Sylvia Black, and one half of the writing duo We Are Dark Angels alongside Nicci Kasper, also a member of KUDU. Parks was a member of progressive rock band the Mars Volta and (together with Kasper) a member of the alternative rock act Bosnian Rainbows. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Parks is a vested partner in a developing audio/visual communications agency. In between writing and performances he has been participating as part-time faculty at Stanford Jazz Workshop, Berklee College of Music and NYC's Drummers Collective. Thomas Pridgen
Thomas Armon Pridgen (born November 23, 1983) is an American drummer, best known for his role as the drummer of The Mars Volta from October 2006 until October 2009. He is touring with rapper Residente and is the drummer for hardcore punk band Trash Talk, as well as his own project The Memorials. Biography Pridgen won the Guitar Center Drum-Off at age nine, and at age ten was the youngest recipient for a Zildjian endorsement in the nearly 400-year history of the company. Pridgen is also naturally left-handed, but plays the drum kit as if he is a right-hander with his kit set-up right-handed. Pridgen has studied with David Garibaldi, Walfredo Reyes Sr., Troy Lucketta, and Curtis Nutall.
