Nogolait Shooting
On 16 July 2022, a group of around 20 gunmen armed with long-barreled weapons and blades entered the Kampung of Nonggolait (or Nogolait) in Nduga Regency, Highland Papua, Indonesia. The attackers opened fire on a grocer, and then shot seven traders riding on a freight truck. Four bystanders were also shot. During the shooting, eleven people were killed and two were wounded. All of the victims were men, most of whom came from other Indonesian islands. Victims of the attack were Daeng Maramhli (42) ''ustad'' (Muslim cleric) of Nonggolait, Rev. Nduga Regency
Nduga Regency is one of the regencies (''kabupaten'') in the Indonesian province of Highland Papua. Nduga Regency was separated from Jayawijaya Regency on 4 January 2008 in accordance with Law No. 6/2008. The Nduga massacre ( id, Pembantaian Nduga) was a shooting of construction workers that occurred on 1 December 2018, in Nduga Regency, Papua (now in Highland Papua), Indonesia. The shooting is considered to be part of the Papuan conflict. The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) acknowledged responsibility and the Indonesian government labeled the attack a massacre.
