''Call Me Thief'' ( af, Noem My Skollie) is a 2016 South African crime film directed by Daryne Joshua. It was selected as the South African entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. It is based on the life of the film's writer, John W. Fredericks. Daryne Joshua
Daryne Joshua (born 1980), is a South African filmmaker. He is best known as the director of critically acclaimed films ''Noem My Skollie'' and ''Ellen: Die storie van Ellen Pakkies''. Apart from filmmaking, he is also a philanthropist, editor, animation designer, sound designer, media and communication director. Personal life He was born and raised in Cape Town. Denise Newman is a South African actress. Biography Newman grew up in the Athlone neighborhood of Cape Town, the daughter of a garment worker. She described herself as a lonely child who would create her own entertainment. After graduating from Athlone High School in 1972, she moved to the United States to do a post-matric learnership. Newman returned to South Africa in 1974 to study social work and found a job at the housing office in Hanover Park. She discovered the Space Theatre, the only theatre in the country to have mixed casts and audiences without a permit, and was encouraged to work there by its director Brian Astbury. Newman worked by sweeping the floors and doing the actors' laundry before becoming a stage manager in 1979. This is a list of submissions to the 89th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016. The deadline for submissions was 3 October 2016, with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films on 11 October. South Africa has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1989.
