No More Lies (Michel'le Song)
"No More Lies" is the debut single by American R&B artist Michel'le. It was released in 1989 as the lead single from her self-titled debut album, and became a top 10 hit in the US. Composition ''The Washington Post'' speculated that "No More Lies" was written about Michel'le's then-boyfriend Dr. Dre, who was abusive toward her and notoriously unfaithful. Music video A music video for the song was released. It depicted Michel'le at a dinner party, singing and dancing while interacting with the guests. The official music video was directed by Jane Simpson - who would also direct the video for the second single, "Nicety". Michel'le Denise Toussant (born December 5, 1970), also spelled Toussaint, is an American R&B singer known for her songs from 1989 to the early 1990s. Her highest charting song is the top ten US Hot 100 hit "No More Lies". Between 2013 and 2015, Michel'le was one of six members on the TV One reality show '' R&B Divas: Los Angeles''. She is also the subject of the 2016 biopic '' Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel'le''. Stacy Lattisaw Jackson (née Lattisaw; born November 25, 1966) is an American R&B singer from Washington, D.C., United States. Career The 1979 song " Ring My Bell" was originally written for then twelve-year-old Lattisaw, as a teenybopper song about kids talking on the telephone. When Lattisaw signed with a different label, Anita Ward was asked to sing it instead, and it became Ward's only major hit. Lattisaw recorded her first album for Cotillion Records at the age of 12 in 1979, under the direction of record producer Van McCoy. However, it was not until she affiliated with Narada Michael Walden, a former drummer with the Mahavishnu Orchestra who was just beginning a career as a producer, that she found larger success. Under Walden's direction, she scored several R&B hit albums between 1981 and 1986. She also opened for the Jacksons' Triumph Tour in 1981. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France.
