Nl'akapxm Eagle Motorplex
Nl'akapxm Eagle Motorplex was a ¼ mile IHRA-sanctioned dragstrip located near Ashcroft and Cache Creek, British Columbia. The motorplex was begun in 1980 on the Ashcroft/Cache Creek Aero Club's old airstrip by Les Edmonds, the leader of the Ashcroft Indian Band. Racing began in 1987 and the track has been under NHRA sanctioning throughout until the 2010 season when it became AHRA sanctioned. In 2011, the track has been under IHRA sanctioning. The name of the track, Nl'akapxm, is pronounced IN-clap-cappum; this is the local dialect variant of the native name for the Thompson nation whose territory extends from Cache Creek south to just north of Seattle Seattle ( ) is a seaport city on the West Coast of the United States. Ashcroft, British Columbia
Ashcroft ( 2016 population: 1,558) is a village in the Thompson Country of the Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is downstream from the west end of Kamloops Lake, at the confluence of the Bonaparte and Thompson Rivers, and is in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. Ashcroft's downtown is on the east side of the Thompson River, although the municipal boundaries straddle the river, with housing and the town's hospital and recreation complex on the west bank. It is something of a "twin" to nearby Cache Creek, which unlike Ashcroft is on the major highway. Ashcroft Indian Band
The Ashcroft First Nation ( thp, sƛ̓ə́z) is a First Nations government Thompson Canyon area of the Central Interior of the Canadian province of British Columbia. Its Indian Reserves are located near the town of Ashcroft, British Columbia, it is a member of the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council. Other Nlaka'pamux bands belong to the Nicola Tribal Association or the Fraser Canyon Indian Administration. The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is the second-largest drag racing sanctioning body after the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The Carrier Era 1971-1987 The IHRA was formed in November 1970 by businessman Larry Carrier. Throughout this period the organization was operated primarily in the south-eastern United States from its headquarters in Bristol, Tennessee. The IHRA initially followed the NHRA's professional class structure of Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock until the 1984 season when it decided to drop the premier Top Fuel category, an arrangement that only lasted three years before the class was reinstated for the 1987 season. Although a quarter mile (1320 feet, 402 m) is the best known measure for a drag track, many tracks are eighth mile (201 m) tracks, and the premiere classes will run 1,000 foot (304.8 m) races. The race is begun from a standing start which allows three factors to affect the outcome of the race: reaction time, power/weight ratio, and traction. Cache Creek is a historic transportation junction and incorporated village northeast of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. It is on the Trans-Canada Highway in the province of British Columbia at a junction with Highway 97. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is a drag racing governing body, which sets rules in drag racing and hosts events all over the United States and Canada. Thompson Country
Thompson Country, also referred to as The Thompson and sometimes as the Thompson Valley and historically known as the Couteau Country or Couteau District, is a historic geographic region of the Southern Interior of British Columbia, more or less defined by the basin of the Thompson River.
