Nils Ebbessøn Astrup
Nils Ebbessøn Astrup (7 June 1901 – 29 September 1972) was a Norwegian ship owner. Personal life Astrup was the son of colonel Ebbe Carsten Morten Astrup and Cecilie Fearnley, and a grandson of Hans Rasmus Astrup. He married Hedevig Stang in 1925, and they were the parents of ship broker Hans Rasmus Astrup. Career Astrup was a co-owner of the shipping company . He served as president of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association from 1961 to 1963, having been vice president first 1940–1945 and then from 1956. From 1966 to 1969 he was vice president of the International Chamber of Shipping. He was also a board member of Det Norske Luftfartselskap. Hans Rasmus Astrup (23 March 1939 – 23 April 2021) was a Norwegian billionaire heir, ship broker, and art collector. He was founder of the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Oslo. Hans Rasmus Astrup
Hans Rasmus Astrup (17 April 1831 in Bolsøy – 19 February 1898) was a Norwegian industrial entrepreneur, philanthropist and politician with the Liberal Party. Astrup was born and raised at Bolsøy in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. He was the son of Ebbe Carsten Tønder Astrup, who was mayor of Bolsøy for four years. He apprenticed as an office boy and salesman for Hans Clausen, who was a ship owner and fish exporter. In 1855, Astrup established his own import business. The trade expanded from fish to lumber, with suppliers in Finland and Sweden and markets in Great Britain. In 1860, he established his office in Stockholm. The business expanded until a fire in 1874. The loss, reconstruction and subsequent economic downturn made the following years to a struggle. It featured approximately 10,000 short biographical entries for Norwegian businesspeople, and was edited by Einar Hoffstad (1894–1959). It was printed by Grøndahl & Søns Boktrykkeri. The purpose of the encyclopedia was to "remedy the need to know something about the individuals one is trading with". The entries contain little genealogical information, and the parents of the portrayed businesspeople are not included. Abbreviations are used extensively to save space and money.
