Nikolayevsk (russian: Никола́евск) is a town and the administrative center of Nikolayevsky District in Volgograd Oblast, Russia, located on the left (eastern) shore of the Volga River. Population: History It was founded in 1747 as the ''khutor'' of Dmitriyev (), which was reorganized into a ''sloboda'' in 1794 and renamed Nikolayevskaya sloboda (). It was granted town status and renamed Nikolayevsk in 1967. Administrative and municipal status Within the framework of administrative divisions, Nikolayevsk serves as the administrative center of Nikolayevsky District. Nikolaevsk, Alaska
Nikolaevsk ( rus, Никола́евск, p=nʲɪkɐˈɫa(j)ɪfsk) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2020 census, the population of the CDP is 328, up from 318 in 2010. Nikolaevsk School serves school-age children from the area. History The town was settled by a group of Old Believers of the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church around 1968, and remains a largely ethnic Russian town to this day. The travels of the group from Russia, as well as the story of the founding of Nikolaevsk, is told in a 1972 article in '' National Geographic'', a 2013 episode on the NatGeo channel called "Red Alaska", and a 2013 article in ''The Atlantic'' magazine. Nikolayevsk-on-Amur (russian: Никола́евск-на-Аму́ре, translit=Nikoláyevsk-na-Amúrye) is a town in Khabarovsk Krai, Russia located on the Amur River close to its liman in the Pacific Ocean. Population: Geography The town is situated on the left bank of the Amur River, from where it flows into the Amur estuary, north of Khabarovsk and from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur railway station. It is the closest significant settlement to the Strait of Tartary separating the mainland from Sakhalin. History Medieval and early-modern history In the late Middle Ages, the people living along the lower course of the Amur (Nivkh, Oroch, Evenki) were collectively known in China as the "wild Jurchen".
