''Nichts von euch auf Erden'' (''Nothing from you on Earth'') is a 2013 novel by the German writer Reinhard Jirgl. It is set in the 25th century and tells the story of how human settlers on Mars return to Earth in an aggressive manner. Reception Hubert Winkels of ''Die Zeit'' placed the novel within an ongoing trend of dystopian science fiction in German literature, represented by authors such as Georg Klein, Ernst-Wilhelm Händler, Benjamin Stein and Juli Zeh. He described the language in Jirgl's book as "a kind of hallucinogenic-holographic reality installation". The book was shortlisted for the 2013 German Book Prize. Reinhard Jirgl
Reinhard Jirgl (born 16 January 1953 in East-Berlin) is a German writer. Biography Jirgl was born in Berlin-Friedrichshain. He became a skilled worker for electromechanics. Then he completed a degree in electronics at Humboldt University, Berlin. He made first attempts at prose during his studies in the early 1970s. From 1975 he worked as an engineer at the Academy of Sciences. He gave up his profession in 1978 to devote more time to writing. He worked as a lighting and service technician at the Volksbühne in Berlin. After submitting his first novel ''Mutter Vater Roman'' to a Berlin publishing house in 1985, he was accused of a "non-Marxist conception of history". The publication of the novel was refused. Until 1989, none of his manuscripts were published. Since 2009 he has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature. and he is member of the PEN Centre Germany. German Book Prize
The German Book Prize (''Deutscher Buchpreis'') is awarded annually, in October, by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (''Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels'') to the best new German language novel of the year. The books, published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, are nominated by their publishers, who can propose up to two books from their current or planned publication list. The books should be in shops before the short-list is announced in September of the award year. The winner is awarded €25,000, while the five shortlisted authors receive €2,500 each. It is presented annually during the Frankfurt Book Fair. The prize was created in 2005, as a successor to the Deutscher Bücherpreis, to heighten awareness for authors writing in German. Juli Zeh (, Julia Barbara Finck, née Zeh; born 30 June 1974 in Bonn) is a German writer and former judge. Biography Her first book was ''Adler und Engel'' (translated into English as ''Eagles and Angels'' by Christine Slenczka), which won the 2002 Deutscher Bücherpreis for best debut novel.
