Nicholas Snowman
Michael Nicholas Snowman OBE (18 March 1944 – 2 March 2023) was a British arts administrator and the chairman of the jewellers Wartski. In 2000, ''The Telegraph'' called him "one of the most influential figures in British classical music for the past 30 years". Early life and education Nicholas Snowman was born on 18 March 1944, the son of Kenneth Snowman, and grandson of Emanuel Snowman, both jewellers and chairmen of Wartski. He was educated at Highgate School and Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he founded the Cambridge University Opera Society. He is a distant cousin of the actress Claire Bloom. Career Snowman was the co-founder of London Sinfonietta and its general manager from 1968 to 1972. In 1976, Snowman, the composer and conductor Pierre Boulez and French culture minister Michel Guy co-founded the Ensemble InterContemporain in Paris. Kenneth Snowman
Abraham Kenneth Snowman CBE FSA (26 July 1919 – 9 July 2002) was a British jeweller, painter and the chairman of Wartski. He was made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1994, and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1997. Early life and education Snowman was born in Hampstead, London, one of three children of the jeweller Emanuel Snowman and his wife Harriet Wartski, daughter of Morris Wartski, the founder of the Wartski art and antiques firm. His family was Jewish and originally came from Poland. Snowman was educated at University College School, Hampstead. Anthony Whitworth-Jones (born 1 September 1945) is an opera manager. Early life Anthony Whitworth-Jones was born on 1 September 1945 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, U.K. He is the son of Henry Whitworth-Jones and Patience Martin. Career Whitworth-Jones became a chartered accountant. Whitworth-Jones worked with the Glyndebourne opera during the 1980s and 1990s and served as its General Director for ten years from 1989 until 1998, during which time the new opera house was built, designed by Michael Hopkins and Partners, opening in 1994. John Cody Fidler-Simpson (born 9 August 1944) is an English foreign correspondent and world affairs editor of BBC News. He has spent all his working life with the BBC, and has reported from more than 120 countries, including thirty war zones, and interviewed many world leaders. He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he read English and was editor of ''Granta'' magazine. Sir Harrison Birtwistle (15 July 1934 – 18 April 2022) was an English composer of contemporary classical music best known for his operas, often based on mythological subjects. Among his many compositions, his better known works include ''The Triumph of Time'' (1972) and the operas ''The Mask of Orpheus'' (1986), ''Gawain'' (1991), and '' The Minotaur'' (2008). The last of these was ranked by music critics at ''The Guardian'' in 2019 as the third-best piece of the 21st-century.
