Nhất Nam
Nhất Nam (Chữ Hán: 一南) is a martial art originating from Vietnam, formalised in Hanoi from 1983 onwards by Ngô Xuân Bính. The name Nhất Nam derives from Sino-Vietnamese characters from "One South" (), and is to be distinguished from Nhật Nam ("Sun South" ), the Vietnamese name for the ancient Chinese Rinan Han commandery in northern Vietnam. The "One" expresses the "unification" of features of Vietnamese martial arts. Ngô Xuân Bính formalised these features in his book on the basics of this unified approach in ''“Nhất Nam căn bản”'' Volumes 1 and 2, ("Basic Nhất Nam," ''căn bản'' means "basic.") According to the English Nhất-Nam Federation's website "Nhất-Nam was mentioned for the first time in sources dating from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries." Chữ Hán (𡨸漢, literally "Chinese characters", ), Chữ Nho (𡨸儒, literally "Confucian characters", ) or Hán tự (漢字, ), is the Vietnamese term for Chinese characters, used to write Văn ngôn (which is a form of Classical Chinese used in Vietnam during the feudal period) and Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary in Vietnamese language, was officially used in Vietnam after the Red River Delta region was incorporated into the Han dynasty and continued to be used until the early 20th century (111 BC – 1919 AD). Rinan
Rinan (; vi, Nhật Nam), also rendered as Jih-nan, was the southernmost commandery of the Chinese Han dynasty. It was located in the central area of modern-day Vietnam between Quảng Bình and Bình Định provinces. It was administered by a local mandarin under direction from the capital of Jiaozhi at Leilou or Longbian (after 200) near modern Hanoi. It was part of the territories briefly occupied by Trưng Trắc's rebellion forces in AD 39. Vietnamese Literature
Vietnamese literature ( vi, Văn học Việt Nam; chữ Nôm: 文學越南) is the literature, both oral and written, created largely by the Vietnamese. Early Vietnamese literature has been greatly influenced by Chinese literature. As Literary Chinese was the formal written language for government documents, a majority of literary works were composed in Hán văn or as văn ngôn. From the 10th century, a minority of literary works were composed in chữ Nôm, the former writing system for the Vietnamese language. The Nôm script better represented Vietnamese literature as it led to the creation of different poetic forms like Lục bát and Song thất lục bát.
