Newport Township is a township in Lake County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 6,770. It includes most parts of the villages of Old Mill Creek and Wadsworth, as well as smaller portions of the villages of Antioch, Beach Park, and a corner of the city of Waukegan. The unincorporated communities of Rosecrans and Russell are also within the township, and the unincorporated community of Millburn is also located partially within Newport Township. Geography Newport Township covers an area of ; of this, or 1.60 percent is water. Lakes in this township include Sterling Lake. The streams of Mill Creek, North Mill Creek and Pettibone Creek run through this township. Carteret County, North Carolina
Carteret County is located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 67,686. Its county seat is Beaufort. The county was created in 1722 as Carteret Precinct and gained county status in 1739. It was named for Sir George Carteret, one of the 17th century English Lords Proprietor, or for his descendant and heir John Carteret, 2nd Earl Granville. Carteret County comprises the Morehead City, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the New Bern-Morehead City, NC Combined Statistical Area. Most of the county is part of the Crystal Coast. History The first male of English parents born in the current area of North Carolina was John Fulford. He was born in 1629 in what is now Carteret County. He settled in this area and died in 1729. McHenry County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,345. Its county seat is Towner. McHenry County is part of the Minot, ND Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on January 4, 1873, with territory annexed from Bottineau County. It was named for James McHenry, an early settler of Vermillion (in present South Dakota). The county government was not organized at that time, nor was the county attached to another county for administrative and judicial purposes. The county organization was effected on October 15, 1884. The county boundaries were altered in 1885, 1887, 1891, and in 1892. It has retained its present boundaries since 1892. When the county was organized in 1884, Villard was named as county seat. Newport Township is a township in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of 2020, the population was 4,444. Newport is located on the outskirts of Nanticoke City. History Establishment Newport was incorporated as a township in 1790. It is one of the original townships in Luzerne County. The municipality derives its name from Newport, Rhode Island. The first settlement in modern-day Newport Township was established by Major Prince Alden in 1772. A few years later, his sons (Mason and John) erected a forge on Nanticoke Creek. One of the first stores in the territory was established by Jacob Ramback; it was constructed on a road between Wanamie and Nanticoke. Due to the growing coal mining industry in the Wyoming Valley (in the 19th century), farmers were selling large tracts of land to the coal companies. Marshall County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,306. Its county seat is Britton. The county was created on May 2, 1885, and was named for Marshall Vincent, who homesteaded near Andover, South Dakota. Geography Marshall County lies on the north side of South Dakota. Its north boundary line abuts the south boundary line of the state of North Dakota. Its terrain consists of rolling hills, with numerous lakes and ponds in the SE portion.
