Newborns' And Mothers' Health Protection Act
The Newborns' and Mothers' Health Protection Act of 1996 (passed as part of the ''Departments of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act, 1997'' {{uspl, 104, 204) is a piece of legislation relating to the coverage of maternity by health insurance plans in the United States. It was signed into law on September 26, 1996, and requires plans that offer maternity coverage to pay for at least a 48-hour hospital stay following childbirth (96-hour stay in the case of a cesarean section). Cesarean Section
Caesarean section, also known as C-section or caesarean delivery, is the surgical procedure by which one or more babies are delivered through an incision in the mother's abdomen, often performed because vaginal delivery would put the baby or mother at risk. Reasons for the operation include obstructed labor, twin pregnancy, high blood pressure in the mother, breech birth, and problems with the placenta or umbilical cord.
