New York State Route 147
New York State Route 147 (NY 147) is a north–south state highway in the Capital District of New York in the United States. The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 5 west of Schenectady in the village of Scotia. Its northern terminus is at a junction with NY 29 in the town of Galway. NY 147 intersects NY 67 in the town of Charlton and serves mainly as a connector between the Schenectady area and the region surrounding Great Sacandaga Lake. Route description NY 147 begins at an intersection with NY 5 (Mohawk Avenue) in the Schenectady County village of Scotia. NY 147 proceeds northeastward as Scandaga Road, a two-lane commercial street past Maple Shade Cemetery and crossing over an Amtrak line. Scotia, New York
Scotia is a village in Schenectady County, New York, United States, incorporated in 1904. The population was 7,729 at the 2010 census. Scotia is part of the town of Glenville, and is connected with the city of Schenectady by the Western Gateway Bridge over the Mohawk River. History The land was purchased by Alexander Lindsay Glen, a native of Scotland, from the Mohawk people in the 17th century. Glen named his estate ''Scotia'' (Latin for "Scotland") after his home country. Scotia was the location of a military encampment during both the French and Indian War of 1754 and again during the War of 1812. During the 1800s, Scotia was known for its production of brooms, over 1 million annually for a time. In the 20th century, Scotia became a thriving bedroom community for employees of Schenectady employers such as General Electric. Galway is a village in the town of Galway in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 200 at the 2010 census. The village is north of Schenectady. Galway Lake, a vacation area, is west of the village. History The first settlers in the town established themselves south of Galway village. In 1838, the village of Galway was incorporated.
