New York (state), New York's 42nd State Senate district is one of 63 districts in the New York State Senate. It has been represented by Democratic Party (United States), Democrat James Skoufis since 2023, following redistricting. Geography District 42 covers much of the Catskill Mountains, Catskills and western Hudson Valley, including all of Sullivan County, New York, Sullivan County and parts of Orange County, New York, Orange County, Ulster County, New York, Ulster County, and Delaware County, New York, Delaware County. The district overlaps with New York's New York's 17th congressional district, 17th and New York's 18th congressional district, 18th congressional districts, and with the 98th, New York's 99th State Assembly district, 99th, 100th, 101st, 103rd, and 122nd districts of the New York State Assembly. The New York State Board of Elections is a bipartisan agency of the New York state government within the New York State Executive Department responsible for enforcement and administration of election-related laws. It also regulates campaign finance disclosure and limitations through its "fair campaign code". The 2012 United States Senate election in New York took place on November 6, 2012, concurrently with the U.S. presidential election as well as other elections to the United States Senate and House of Representatives as well as various state and local elections. The 2012 United States presidential election in New York took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the 2012 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated.
