New Wave (Against Me! Album)
''New Wave'' is Against Me!'s fourth full-length studio album and their debut album on Sire Records. Produced by Butch Vig of ''Nevermind'' fame, it was released on July 10, 2007. The album's first single, " White People for Peace", was released in May 2007, prior to the album's release. A second single, "Thrash Unreal", followed in July 2007. The album was #1 on ''Spin Magazine''s Album of the Year and #9 on ''Rolling Stone''s list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. Production ''New Wave'' is the band's first album with major label Sire Records. Some fans responded negatively to the decision, calling them "sell-outs". Singer/guitarist Laura Jane Grace commented on this, saying "It's just kind of a self-defeating, shoot yourself in the foot-like attitude to have. I find it completely frustrating and off-putting and it turns me off of the punk scene really because people are very closed minded." Against Me!
Against Me! is an American punk rock band formed in 1997 in Naples, Florida, by singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace. That same year, Grace moved to Gainesville, Florida, which is considered the band's hometown. Since 2001, the band's lineup has also included guitarist James Bowman. After releasing three studio albums through independent record labels, Against Me! moved to Sire Records for 2007's '' New Wave'', which reached no. 57 on the ''Billboard'' 200. In 2011, the band launched the record label Total Treble. In 2012, Grace publicly came out as a transgender woman. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. "333" is a song by the punk rock band Against Me!. It was released in July 2016 as the first of three pre-release songs from the band's seventh album ''Shape Shift with Me''. The song was written on the band's European tour in 2015, after a visit to The Guggenheim art museum in Bilbao, Spain. Lyrics in the song make reference to various artworks there in 2015, including '' One Hundred and Fifty Multicolored Marilyns'', '' The Renowned Orders of the Night'' and '' Tarot Garden''.
