New Orleans Walk Of Fame
The New Orleans Walk of Fame honors notable people from New Orleans, Louisiana, who made contributions to the culture of the United States. All inductees will be either born in the Greater New Orleans area or spent their formative or creative years there. Contribution can be in any area; most of the current inductees made their achievements in acting, entertainment, music, sports, art/architecture, broadcasting, journalism, science/education and literature. The stars on the walk will display a custom engraved fleur-de-lis, permanently installed on Canal Street alongside the Riverwalk, which serves as a symbol of honor and remembrance. Master P collaborated with visual artist Brandan “BMIKE” Odums to create the historic NOLA Walk of Fame's colorful fleur-de-lis. Canal Street, New Orleans
Canal Street (french: rue du canal) is a major thoroughfare in the city of New Orleans. Forming the upriver boundary of the city's oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter or ''Vieux Carré'', it served historically as the dividing line between the colonial-era (18th-century) city and the newer American Sector, today's Central Business District. Up until the early 1800s, it was the Creoles who lived in the Vieux Carré. After the Louisiana Purchase (1803), a large influx of other cultures began to find their way into the city via the Mississippi River. A number of Americans from Kentucky and the Midwest moved into the city and settled uptown. Along the division between these two cultures, a canal was planned. The canal was never built but the street which took its place received the name. Furthermore, the median of the street became known as the neutral ground, acknowledging the cultural divide. Goldring (born 1942/1943) is an American billionaire businessman, chairman of the Sazerac Company, and head of the American family that owns Sazerac, the second-largest spirits company in the US. Antoine Dominique Domino Jr. (February 26, 1928 – October 24, 2017), known as Fats Domino, was an American pianist, singer and songwriter. One of the pioneers of rock and roll music, Domino sold more than 65 million records. Born in New Orleans to a French Creole family, Domino signed to Imperial Records in 1949.
