New Haven Skyhawks
The Connecticut Skyhawks were a men's spring-professional basketball team in the United States Basketball League. History The Skyhawks were founded in 1985 as the Connecticut Colonels. The Colonels suspended operations until the 1988 season, when the team was re-branded as the New Haven Skyhawks. The Skyhawks would defeat the Palm Beach Stingrays for the USBL Championship that season, 134–126. Following their return to the league, the USBL suspended operations for all teams until 1990. After the return of the league in 1990, the Skyhawks would continue to carry the New Haven banner, until 1993, when the team rebranded to the Connecticut Skyhawks. During the 1999 season, the Skyhawks would lose to the defending champions, Atlantic City Seagulls (United States Basketball League), Atlantic City Seagulls, in that season's championship game 83–77. The United States Basketball League (USBL) was a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985 and ceased operations in 2008. The USBL started in 1985 as one of the first basketball leagues to play a late-spring to early-summer schedule. The league quickly became known as a development league for players, with many players moving up to the National Basketball Association, NBA and many more playing in Europe after stints here. In 1996, the league made a stock offering, a rarity among sports leagues. However, in later years, the league declined as rival leagues appeared and USBL had a tougher time replacing teams that folded. In the last two seasons, the league was mainly a midwestern league, with teams mainly in Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. After speculation that the USBL might fold after the 2007 season, the league announced that it would sit out the 2008 season and consider its options for the future. Jonathan Law High School
Jonathan Law High School is a public high school located in Milford, Connecticut, United States. It serves about 1,000 students in grades 9–12 in the Milford Public Schools system. History The school was built in the 1960s to accommodate the increased student numbers caused by the baby-boom after World War II. It was named in honor of the 27th Governor of the Colony of Connecticut, Jonathan Law (August 6, 1674 – November 6, 1750). Until the 1970s, the Milford Public School System continued to include two public high schools, Milford High School in the central part of the city and Jonathan Law High School on the west end of the city, but shortly after the opening of a third, Joseph A. Foran High School on the east end of the city, Milford High School was closed and converted to accommodate municipal administrative offices due to the city's diminishing student numbers. New Haven Chargers
The New Haven Chargers are the athletic teams that represent the University of New Haven, located in West Haven, Connecticut, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Chargers' 18 varsity athletics teams, seven men's and 11 women's, compete as members of the Northeast-10 Conference, with the exception of women's rugby (added for Fall 2021) which competes under USA Rugby. New Haven has been a member of the NE10 since 2008. In 2016-2017, the women's volleyball and baseball team won Northeast-10 Conference championships. Overall 12-of-16 teams qualified for postseason play, while six teams (men's & women's cross country, volleyball, baseball, women's lacrosse and softball) advanced to the NCAA Championships. Atlantic City Seagulls (United States Basketball League)
The Atlantic City Seagulls were a professional basketball team based in Atlantic City, New Jersey. They played 6 seasons in the United States Basketball League (USBL), winning 3 consecutive league titles between 1997 and 1999. History The franchise was founded in early 1996 by a group of investors led by Philadelphia native Paul Lipschutz. The first coach was Mike Gatley. In their inaugural season, the team won the Northern Division title with a 22–7 record and reached the league finals, after defeating Connecticut Skyhawks in the quarterfinals and the Tampa Bay Windjammers in the semifinals; the Seagulls lost to the Florida Sharks in the USBL finals, 115–118.
