New Hamburg is an unincorporated community in Scott County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. Demographics History New Hamburg was originally called Hamburg, and under the latter name was platted in 1866. The community was named after Hamburg, in Germany, the native land of a large share of the first settlers. New Hamburg, New York
New Hamburg is a small hamlet (and census-designated place) along the Hudson River in Dutchess County, New York, United States. It is located in the southern corner of the Town Of Poughkeepsie. History Early history Road records of 1770 show that there were shipping facilities in New Hamburg called “Hood Landing.” Rivermen called the rocky point of land in the angle between the Hudson and the mouth of Wappinger Creek "High Point" and the area which projected into the river a few miles south "Low Point" (Chelsea). Lime burning became an important industry. Dr. Benjamin Ely's map of 1797 shows a lime kiln in New Hamburg. By 1800, Ephraim DuBois had settled at High Point. In 1837 he sold his property, including a lime quarry and kiln, to Adolph Brower from New York. Brower's customers were local pig iron producers and farmers and builders as far away as New Jersey, supplied by river boat. New Hamburg (Metro-North Station)
New Hamburg station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line, serving Wappingers Falls, New York. History The Hudson River Railroad was built through New Hamburg in 1849, opening on December 6, in order to expand the Troy and Greenbush Railroad from the Albany area to New York City. Earlier attempts to build the railroad in 1848 were delayed by a fatal cholera outbreak among railroad workers between 1848 and 1849. The HRR was acquired by the New York Central Railroad in 1864. The New Hamburg station bisects the hamlet's Main Street. Old photographs show a grade crossing used to exist here; since the line was double-tracked in 1928, however, getting from one end of Main Street to the other has required a detour via nearby Bridge Street. Another bridge further north on Reed Road is the only other crossing in the hamlet. Original Highlands, Louisville
The Original Highlands is a historic neighborhood in the Highlands area of Louisville, Kentucky, United States. History The neighborhood was built on land surveyed in 1774 and granted to Colonial William Preston, surveyor of Fincastle County, Virginia. He died in 1781, and eventually his son, Major William Preston, and wife moved onto the land in 1814 and established a plantation called the "Briar Patch". The 1819 construction of the Louisville and Bardstown Turnpike (now Bardstown Road) would eventually lead to many people moving to the area. Before the American Civil War the area was agricultural and attracted many German immigrants, and was known as New Hamburg. Formal subdivision began after the land was inherited by Preston's daughter, Susan Preston Christy (after whom Christy Avenue is named). In 1869, Sydney J. New Hamburg is a community of approximately 11,953 (2011 stats) in the township of Wilmot, Ontario, Canada. It is in the far western part of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, near the regional border with Perth County. It is adjacent to the community of Baden, which sits to its east and is also a part of the township of Wilmot. The nearest cities are Kitchener, Waterloo, and Stratford. The Nith River winds throughout the town and flows through the downtown core, which is home to a 50-foot waterwheel built in 1990. The weekly newspaper serving the community is the '' New Hamburg Independent''. The downtown has been designated a Heritage Conservation District.
