The Neurological Society of India (NSI) is the apex body representing neuroscientists of the country. It was founded in 1951 by Jacob Chandy, Balasubramaniam Ramamurthi, S. T. Narasimhan, and Baldev Singh (neurologist), Baldev Singh, who together have been credited to be pioneers in development of epilepsy surgery in India. The society appointed Jacob Chandy as its first President. The society publishes the bi-monthly journal ''Neurology India''. The Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons (AASNS) is the inter-continental, non-governmental, learned society representing neurosurgeons of the Asia-Pacific, Asian-Australasian region. It was founded in 1964 and is made up of twenty-eight national societies, totaling 60 percent of neurosurgeons globally. It is the largest of the five continental associations (American Association of Neurological Surgeons, AANS, AASNS, Continental Association of African Neurosurgical Societies, CAANS, European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, EANS and Latin American Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, FLANC) of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. Neurology (from el, νεῦρον (neûron), "string, nerve" and the suffix -logia, "study of") is the branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease involving the brain, the spinal cord and the peripheral nerves. Neurological practice relies heavily on the field of neuroscience, the scientific study of the nervous system. Majid Samii
Majid Samii (Romanization of Persian: Majid Samiêi), ( fa, مجید سمیعی, born 19 June 1937) is an Iranian neurosurgeon and medical scientist. Biography Samii was born in Tehran, Iran on 19 June 1937. After having completed his high school education in Iran, he moved to Germany, where he started his medical studies at the University of Mainz. He has been the president of the International Society for Neurosurgery and was elected as the founding president of ''MASCIN'' – "Madjid Samii Congress of International Neurosurgeons" in 2003. Samii received the "Physician" award by the north German city of Hanover. John Nicholas Walton, Baron Walton of Detchant (16 September 1922 – 21 April 2016) was a British neuroscientist, academic, and life peer who sat in the House of Lords as a crossbencher. Life Lord Walton qualified from Durham University College of Medicine and completed his MD at Newcastle Medical School. Walton was President of the British Medical Association (BMA) from 1980 to 1982, President of the General Medical Council (GMC) 1982-89 and President of the Royal Society of Medicine from 1984 to 1986. Jagjit Singh Chopra (15 June 1935 – 18 January 2019) was an Indian neurologist, medical writer and an Emeritus Professor of the Department of Neurology at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). Prakash Narain Tandon
Prakash Narain Tandon (born 13 August 1928) is an Indian neuroscientist and neurosurgeon. He graduated with an MBBS and MS from the GMCin 1950 and 52 respectively, and then trained at the University of London and obtained his FRCS in 1956. He further obtained specialist training in neurosurgery at Oslo, Norway and Montreal, Canada. After a brief tenure as a professor at the K.G. Medical College, Lucknow (1963–65), he moved to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi where he founded the neurosurgery department he has been a professor of neurosurgery, a Bhatnagar Fellow (CSIR) and then a professor emeritus. Sunkara Balaparameswara Rao (12 February 1928 – 22 March 2019) was an Indian neurosurgeon. He is regarded as the 'father of neurosurgery in united Andhra Pradesh'. He started the first Department of Neurosurgery in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in April 1956. He received the Dr. B. C. Roy award in 1989.
