The Netherlands competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from 4 to 20 February 2022. The Netherlands won eight gold medals at these Games, matching their gold medal hauls from 2014 and 2018, although the total number of medals won decreased from 24 in 2014 to 20 in 2018 and 17 in 2022. The women's 5000 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 10 February, at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Irene Schouten of the Netherlands, who already became the champion on 3000 m a few days earlier, won the event. Isabelle Weidemann of Canada won the silver medal, and Martina SáblÃková of the Czech Republic, the 2010 and 2014 Olympic champion at this distance, bronze. The 2018 champion, Esmee Visser, did not qualify for the Olympics. Skeleton At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Skeleton at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the Xiaohaituo Bobsleigh and Luge Track in Yanqing District, China. The events took place between 10 and 12 February 2022. A total of two skeleton events were held, one each for men and women. A total of 50 quotas (25 per gender) were distributed to the sport, the same as the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, five men's quotas were transferred to the women's event to achieve gender equality. A total of 2 events were contested, one each for men and women. Qualification A total of 50 quota spots (25 per gender) were available to athletes to compete at the games. In July 2018, the International Olympic Committee moved five men's quotas to the women's event, to achieve gender equality. The women's 1000 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 17 February, at the Beijing National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Miho Takagi of Japan won the event, becoming the first Japanese Olympic gold medalist in this event, and second Asian gold medalist after Zhang Hong in 2014. It was also her first Olympic gold medal in an individual event. Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands won the silver medal, her first Olympic medal. The women's 500 metres competition in short track speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 5 February (heats) and 7 February (finals), at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing. Arianna Fontana of Italy won the event, replicating her success in 2018. Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands took the silver, setting the Olympic record in one of the heats, and Kim Boutin of Canada won the bronze. The defending champion was Fontana. The silver medalist, Yara van Kerkhof, and the bronze medalist, Boutin, who was also the world record holder, qualified as well. Van Kerkhof, however, was not selected to skate this distance. Yara Van Kerkhof
Yara van Kerkhof (; born 31 May 1990) is a Dutch short track speed skater. She won the silver medal in the 500 m event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Career Van Kerkhof competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for the Netherlands. In the 500 metres she was second in her heat, advancing to a quarter-final, where she finished third, not advancing. In the 1500 metres she again advanced out of the first round, but was fifth in her semi-final, not advancing. She also competed in the 1000 metres, finishing third in her heat. As a member of the Dutch 3000 metre relay team, she was disqualified in the heats, again not advancing. Her best individual finish was in the 500m, where she was 11th. As of September 2014, van Kerkhof's best performance at the World Championships came in 2011, when she won a silver medal as a member of the Dutch 3000m relay team.
