Greg Neeld
Greg Neeld (born February 25, 1955, in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a retired ice hockey defenceman. He played 17 games for the Toronto Toros of the World Hockey Association. On December 7, 1973, in an Ontario Hockey Association junior game between Neeld's Toronto Marlboros and the Kitchener Rangers, Neeld was high-sticked in the face by Kitchener's Dave Maloney, resulting in the loss of his left eye. Neeld became the first player (excluding goaltenders) to wear a facial shield in regular play. Neeld's injury brought attention to issue of ocular safety in ice hockey, and in Canada, facial protection was made mandatory for minor hockey by 1980. Today, many leagues across North America and Europe mandate use of visors for their players. He persevered with his dream to become a professional hockey player. John Neeld
Sir John Neeld, 1st Baronet (1805–1891) was Member of Parliament for Cricklade between 1835 and 1859, and Chippenham, Wiltshire, England between 1865 and 1868. Early life and career Neeld was one of five sons of Joseph Neeld (1754–1828) and his wife Mary (née Bond) (1765–1857), of Hendon, Middlesex. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took a B.A. in 1827 and an M.A. three years later. In 1840 he was a founder member of the Conservative Club and in 1845 married Lady Eliza Harriet Dickson, setting up home in London. The same year he was appointed to the office of Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to Queen Victoria, for which service he was created 1st Baronet Neeld and became entitled to the style "Sir John Neeld" on 20 April 1859. Joseph Neeld
Joseph Neeld (1789–1856) was Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom for the rotten borough of Gatton (UK Parliament constituency), Gatton, Surrey from March to July 1830 and for Chippenham (UK Parliament constituency), Chippenham, Wiltshire, England from September 1830 to March 1856. Career Neeld was one of five brothers born to Joseph Neeld (1754–1828), a solicitor and Mary (née Bond) (1765–1857); the family lived in Hendon, Middlesex. He seems to have qualified as a barrister of the Inner Temple but it is known that he set out on a career in property management; in 1821 he took a lease on land in Paddington owned by Westminster Abbey. In 1828, he inherited the substantial sum of £800,000 from his famous great-uncle, Philip Rundell the silversmith, described by James Losh as a "tyrannical miser". Mark Neeld
Mark Neeld (born 13 July 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. He was senior coach of the Melbourne Football Club from 2012 to 2013, when he was sacked on 17 June after much scrutiny. He has since held the coveted position of Geelong Cats Jr Basketball Club CEO where he is a well renowned coach of elite post play. Neeld quit as the Head of Player Development at the Essendon Football Club on 14 May 2018 Playing career Geelong Neeld, originally from St Joseph's Football Club, started his football career with Geelong. The Neeld Baronetcy, of Grittleton in the County of Wiltshire, was a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 20 April 1859 for John Neeld, a Conservative politician and Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to Queen Victoria. The title became extinct on the death of the third Baronet in 1941.
