Navarre Railway Line
Navarre railway line is an abandoned railway between Navarre in the Wimmera region of the Australian state of Victoria and Ben Nevis railway station. The town of Navarre is located in the Shire of Northern Grampians and was surveyed in 1855 and renamed after the medieval European Kingdom of Navarre. Officially opened on May 26, 1914, the line had five stations: Navarre, Tulkara, Landsborough, Joel, Crowlands, and the terminus, Ben Nevis railway station where the line connected with the Avoca railway line. Rolling stock, engines, such as the Victorian Railways Dd class locomotive (including locomotive K174), drivers and repair crews were supplied from Ararat and the service began by running services three days per week. Abandoned Railway
An abandoned railroad is a railway line which is no longer used for that purpose. Such lines may be ''disused railways'', ''closed railways'', ''former railway lines'', or ''derelict'' railway lines. Crowlands, Victoria
Crowlands is a locality nestled on the Wimmera River and is located approximately northeast of the town of Ararat, in the state of Victoria, Australia. It comprises a small village area of scattered houses and larger farms. History Before European settlement The traditional owners of the locality are the Dja Dja Wurrung or Jaara people who are part of the larger Kulin nation. The Jaara people suffered badly when gold was discovered and their population dropped dramatically as the Europeans converted more land to mining. The early years In 1836 Major Thomas Mitchell passed through the locality on his exploration of the Colony. During the 1840s European settlers began to move into the locality to establish sheep runs and harvest the nearby timber. The Shire of Pyrenees is a local government area (LGA) in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018 had a population of 7,353.
