Below a list of all National champions in the Women's 5000 metres (track outdoor) in track and field from several countries since 1980. In most countries however the event was contested for the first time in 1995. Until then the 3000 metres was the main middle-distance track event for women. National Championship
A national championship(s) is the top achievement for any sport or competition, contest within a league of a particular nation or nation state. The title is usually awarded by contests, ranking systems, stature, ability, etc. This determines the best team, individual (or other entity) in a particular nation and in a particular field. Often, the use of the term cup or championship is just a choice of words. Marleen Renders
Marleen Renders (born 24 December 1968, in Diest) is a retired female long-distance runner from Belgium, who represented her native country thrice at the Summer Olympics: in 1988, 1996 and 2000. In 1995 she won the Antwerp Marathon, in 1998 the Berlin Marathon, and she triumphed twice in the Paris Marathon in 2000 and 2002 (with a personal best of 2:23:05). She was victorious at the Berlin Half Marathon in 1997 and 1998 and was the 2003 winner of the City-Pier-City Loop half marathon in the Hague. She won the 20 km of Brussels nine times consecutively from 1996 to 2004, which included a course record run of 1:07:46 in 2002. Carol Howe (runner)
Carol Elizabeth Howe is a former informant for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Howe became a key figure in Oklahoma City bombing conspiracy theories when she said that she informed authorities of a right-wing extremist plan to blow up a federal building in Oklahoma a few months before the Oklahoma City bombing. Early life Howe was adopted at birth by a wealthy family in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her father, Bob Howe, was a former CEO of Mapco Incorporated, a Tulsa energy conglomerate. Her mother, Aubyn Howe, worked as a philanthropist. The family were members of Southern Hills Country Club. Tina Connelly (born August 16, 1970 in New Westminster, British Columbia) is a retired female track and field athlete from Canada, who competed in the long-distance events. She represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics, finishing in 37th place in the women's 10.000 metres. Kathy Butler
Kathy Butler (born 22 October 1973) is a long-distance runner who competes in the 10,000 metres and marathon, as well as cross country running and road running. Born in Scotland, she has competed internationally for both Great Britain and Canada. Early life and collegiate career Butler was born in Edinburgh of English parents and brought up in Edinburgh and the Isle of Wight until her parents emigrated to Ontario, Canada when she was 10. She attended the University of Guelph, Canada before transferring to the University of Wisconsin, USA. In 2004, she was inducted into the University of Wisconsin hall of fame. In 2005, she was inducted into the University of Guelph hall of fame. As a member of the cross country and track teams at the University of Wisconsin, Butler was a five-time NCAA Champion and a 13-time All-American.
