National Archivist Of Norway
The national archivist ( no, Riksarkivar) of Norway is the professional and administrative manager of the National Archives of Norway and the National Archival Services of Norway. In addition, the national archivist bears direct responsibility with regard to legislation and regulations. The position was created in 1839. Henrik Wergeland was appointed the first national archivist in 1840 and entered office in 1841. At that time, the position was limited to serving as head of the National Archives. In 1904 the position was expanded to also encompass the head of the regional state archives. Inga Bolstad was appointed national archivist in 2014. Kristian Brinch Koren
Kristian Brinch Koren (May 23, 1863 – February 10, 1938) was a Norwegian historian and archivist. He was appointed national archivist of Norway in 1912, serving from 1913 to 1933. Early life Koren was born in Trondheim, the son of the senior physician August Laurentius Koren (1833–1929) and Johanne Cathrine Brinch, and the brother of the diplomat Finn Koren (1875–1966). The family left Trondheim in 1867. Career Following his '' examen artium'' at Oslo Cathedral School in 1881 and his ''candidatus philologiæ'' in Kristiania in the fall of 1889, Koren worked as a volunteer apprentice at the university library and a substitute at the National Archives. On February 20, 1891 he was appointed regional state archivist in Trondheim. In 1896 he succeeded Niels Peter Selmer Arentz as librarian at the library of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters. Ivar Fonnes
Ivar Fonnes (born 24 May 1944) is a Norwegian historian, archivist and civil servant. He served as national archivist of Norway from 2006 to 2014. Career Fonnes graduated as cand.philol. in history from the University of Oslo in 1972. From 1971 to 1983 he was assigned with the Faculty of History and Philosophy (later renamed the Faculty of Humanities) at the University of Oslo. He was assigned with the National Archives of Norway from 1983, first as head of the IT department, and eventually with various other administrative positions. John Herstad (born 8 July 1936) is a Norwegian historian. He was born in Bergen. Herstad was appointed professor at the University of Bergen from 1980. Dagfinn Mannsåker
Dagfinn Mannsåker (30 June 1916 – 16 July 1994) was a Norwegian archivist and historian. He was born at Ullensvang in Hordaland, Norway. He was the brother of Bergfrid Fjose. He took the dr.philos. degree in 1955, on the thesis ''Det norske presteskapet i det nittande hundreåret. Sosialhistoriske studiar''. Hallvard Trætteberg
Hallvard Trætteberg (1898 in Løten – 21 November 1987 in Oslo) was the leading Norwegian heraldry, heraldic artist and the expert adviser on heraldry to the Government of Norway and the Norwegian Royal Family for much of the 20th century. From about 1930 he played a central role in the renewal of public heraldry in Norway with an emphasis on simplification. He gave the Coat of arms of Norway a modern design and designed several county and municipal coats of arms, seals of the bishops of the Church of Norway, and monograms. He also wrote several books. Reidar Omang
Reidar Omang (26 November 1897 – 15 October 1964) was a Norwegian historian, librarian and archivist. Reidar Omang was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. His father, Simen Oscar Fredrik Omang (1867-1953), was a noted botanist. Omang took matriculation from the Skien public school in 1916. He took his Cand.mag. degree at the University of Oslo in 1924 and Cand. philol. in 1930. He was a teacher in Telemark at Kviteseid from 1918 to 1919 and at Skien from 1919 to 1920. From 1923-1935 he was employed at the University of Oslo Library. During 1928-1935, he was also chief of the Manuscript Collection. From 1928 to 1945, he was librarian at the Norwegian Royal Palace. Asgaut Steinnes
Asgaut Steinnes (11 October 1892 – 6 July 1973) was a Norwegian archivist and historian who specialized in the Middle Ages. He served as National archivist of Norway from 1933 to 1960. Career Steinnes was born in Klepp, District of Stavanger (now Rogaland), Norway on 11 October 1892. He was the son of a farmer, teacher and cantor. He earned his Ph.D. in 1928 with a dissertation on the tax system in the Middle Ages. From 1933 to 1960 he was the national archivist of Norway. Ebbe Hertzberg
Ebbe Carsten Hornemann Hertzberg (11 April 1847 – 2 October 1912) was a Norwegian professor and social economist. He was also a legal historian and published several works in that field. Biography Hertzberg was born at Holmestrand in Vestfold, Norway. He was the son of Johan Christian Linde Hertzberg (1816–84) and Inger Horneman (1820–95). He attended the University of Christiania (now University of Oslo). Henrik Jørgen Huitfeldt-Kaas
Henrik Jørgen Huitfeldt-Kaas (2 February 1834 – 18 May 1905) was a Norwegian historian and Director-General of the National Archives of Norway (''riksarkivar''). Huitfeldt-Kaas was born in Christiania (now Oslo, Norway). He was a member of both the Danish noble Huitfeldt and Kaas families. He was descended from Lieutenant-General Henrik Jørgen Huitfeldt and Birgitte Christine Kaas. Michael Birkeland (16 December 183024 May 1896) was a Norwegian historian, civil servant and politician. He was born at Eigersund in Rogaland, Norway.
