National Union Of Students (Australia)
The National Union of Students (NUS) is the peak representative body for Australian higher education students. As of 2020, there are 21 student unions in Australian campuses affiliated to NUS. A student union is eligible for membership by its classification as a legitimate student representative body at any Australian post-secondary training provider and the payment of Union fees by the union according to the number of full-time study units of its students. History NUS in its current form came into being in 1987 after the collapse of its predecessor, the Australian Union of Students (AUS), in 1984. Labor Right
The Labor Right, also known as Modern Labor, is a political faction of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) at the national level that is characterised by being more economically conservative and, in some cases, more socially conservative. The Labor Right is a broad alliance of various state factions and competes with the Labor Left faction. State branches Factional power usually finds expression in the percentage vote of aligned delegates at party conferences. John Graham (Australian Politician)
John Edward Graham is an Australian politician. He is a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since October 2016, when he was appointed to fill the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Sophie Cotsis to contest the Canterbury state by-election. On 8 June 2021, Graham became the deputy leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council. Additionally, he currently serves as the Shadow Special Minister of State, Shadow Minister for Roads, and Shadow Minister for Music and the Night Time Economy. Penelope Gail Sharpe (born 22 October 1970) is an Australian politician. She has served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 2005, representing the Labor Party. Since June 2021, Sharpe is the leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council. In the Labor Party leadership contest in November 2018, Sharpe was elected Deputy Leader under Michael Daley. Voluntary student unionism (VSU), as it is known in Australia, or voluntary student membership (VSM), as it is known in New Zealand, is a policy under which membership of – and payment of membership fees to – university student organisations is voluntary. The Australian Liberal Students' Federation (ALSF) is an Australian students' political organisation. Founded in 1948, the ALSF carries similar ideology to the Liberal Party of Australia. The Federation works closely with the Liberal Party, however it is an independent organisation that pursues its own policy agenda. The Federation works to promote Liberal beliefs on campus, facilitates communication amongst individual clubs and assists in co-ordinating national Liberal Student campaigns.
