National Theatre Of Cornwall
The National Theatre of Cornwall, or Cornish National Theatre, is a new theatre company proposed by Cornwall Council. Culture strategy It is one of ten cultural projects proposed as part of a five-year culture strategy agreed upon by Cornwall Council's cabinet in January 2012. The National Theatre of Cornwall will be a collaboration between the Hall for Cornwall, Dartington, Kneehigh Theatre, Eden Project and Wildworks, with other companies and individuals, to bring world class theatre to people in Cornwall. A similar project had previously been proposed by Cornish theatre company Bish Bash Bosh under the name ''National Theatre for Cornwall''. The Hall for Cornwall registered ''The National Theatre of Cornwall'' as a trademark in September 2011. Cornwall Council ( kw, Konsel Kernow) is the unitary authority for Cornwall in the United Kingdom, not including the Isles of Scilly, which has its own unitary council. The council, and its predecessor Cornwall County Council, has a tradition of large groups of independent councillors, having been controlled by independents in the 1970s and 1980s. Since the 2021 elections, it has been under the control of the Conservative Party. Cornwall Council provides a wide range of services to the approximately half a million people who live in Cornwall. Hall for Cornwall, known as Truro City Hall until 1997, is an events venue in Boscawen Street in Truro, Cornwall, England. The building, which was previously the headquarters of Truro City Council, is a Grade II* listed building. History The first municipal building in Truro was a 17th-century market house, which was arcaded on the ground floor so that markets could be held, with an assembly hall on the first floor. It was replaced with a more substantial structure in 1809 but when that was also found to be inadequate, civic leaders commissioned a new building on the same site in the early 1840s. Kneehigh Theatre
Kneehigh Theatre was an international touring theatre company founded in 1980 by Mike Shepherd and based in Cornwall, England. The company was based in barns on the southern Cornish coast, at Gorran Haven, but the administration was in Truro. On 3 June 2021, Kneehigh announced it would close. Overview Kneehigh was started in 1980 by Mike Shepherd. Early productions were performed in village halls, marquees, cliff-tops and quarries. Their productions were often based around mythological tales such as the Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale '' The Red Shoes'', ''The Bacchae'' and the Cornish legend '' Tristan and Yseult''. is a Japanese alternative idol girl group that was founded in 2015 by their manager Junnosuke Watanabe. The group was conceived as a successor to BiS, an idol group managed by Watanabe that disbanded in 2014. Cornish National Library
Kresen Kernow ( Cornish for Cornwall Centre) in Redruth, United Kingdom is Cornwall's archive centre, home to the world's biggest collection of archive and library material related to Cornwall. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Cornwall Council and opened in 2019, it brings together the collections which were previously held at Cornwall Record Office, the Cornish Studies Library and Cornwall and Scilly Historic Environment Record as well as in various outstores. Kresen Kernow was the name of the building in Alma Place in which the Cornish Studies Library was formerly held. The new archive centre, which has been constructed on the former Redruth Brewery site in Tolgus Hill, Redruth, has the same name.
