National Skyline
National Skyline is an American alternative rock band formed in late 1996 by Jeff Dimpsey of Hum. Dimpsey originally formed the band in order to perform a 45-minute-long song that he had written. They were initially an indie rock supergroup of sorts, with a rotating cast of prominent Champaign/Chicago area musicians. They did record the 45-minute song/album with Rick Valentin (of The Poster Children) in spring 1997, but it has never been released. The band's name is apparently a reference to Bob Dylan's album ''Nashville Skyline'', though their music betrays no stylistic debt to Dylan. The group's core members Dimpsey (bass) and Jeff Garber (singer/guitarist/songwriter) released two full-lengths, ''National Skyline'' and ''This = Everything'', and the EP ''Exit Now''. Champaign–Urbana Metropolitan Area
The Champaign–Urbana metropolitan area, also known as Champaign–Urbana and Urbana–Champaign as well as Chambana (colloquially), is a metropolitan area in east-central Illinois. Hum (band)
Hum is an American alternative rock band from Champaign, Illinois, United States. They are best known for their 1995 radio hit "Stars". After initially disbanding in 2000, Hum was largely inactive (save for sporadic performances) until reuniting in 2015 for a series of short tours. On June 23, 2020, the band announced and released ''Inlet'', their first album of new material in over twenty-two years. The iTunes Store is a digital media store operated by Apple Inc. It opened on April 28, 2003, as a result of Steve Jobs' push to open a digital marketplace for music. As of April 2020, iTunes offered 60 million songs, 2.2 million apps, 25,000 TV shows, and 65,000 films. When it opened, it was the only legal digital catalog of music to offer songs from all five major record labels. Year Of The Rabbit (band)
Year of the Rabbit is a rock band assembled and fronted by Ken Andrews, formerly of Failure (band), Failure and ON (music), ON. After the commercial disappointment of ON, Andrews and ON's touring drum kit, drummer Tim Dow (formerly of Shiner (band), Shiner and Season to Risk) first recruited Dow's friend Jeff Garber (lead guitar/background vocals, formerly of National Skyline and Castor (band), Castor). Solomon Snyder (bass/background vocals, formerly of Cupcakes and Dovetail Joint (band), Dovetail Joint) came on board shortly thereafter. Whereas ON's material had been created mostly by Andrews as a solo project, the harder-rocking sound of Year of the Rabbit was much closer to that of his previous band, Failure. Castor (band)
Castor was an American indie rock/emo band from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Formed in 1994, they were known for their "fluid" sound, often changing time signatures several times in a song while maintaining the flow of the music. They released two albums, the first self titled in 1995, the second '' Tracking Sounds Alone'' in 1998. Both albums are now out of print and only available in digital format online. Singer and guitarist Jeff Garber and bassist Derek Niedringhaus recorded an album under the band name " Big Bright Lights" in 1997 which was not released until 2001. During their existence they toured with other influential Champaign-Urbana acts Braid and Hum amongst others. Garber went on to play in the bands National Skyline and Year of the Rabbit. Parasol Records is an American independent record label based in Urbana, Illinois. The label was founded by Geoff Merritt as an outgrowth of the catalog Parasol Mail Order (which was started in 1991).
