Great Crossing, Kentucky
Great Crossing is an unincorporated community located in Scott County, Kentucky, United States. Geography Great Crossing is located in west-central Scott County at 38°12'56.1"N 84°36'21.1"W and is part of the Lexington-Fayette metropolitan area. Kentucky Route 227 bisects the center of the community, and U.S. Route 460 passes south of the community center. Georgetown is to the east, Stamping Ground is to the northwest, and Frankfort is to the west. Elkhorn Creek, an 18 mile long navigable waterway, bisects the community. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Great Crossing has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. History Great Crossing was founded in 1783 by Robert Johnson. Thomas Metcalfe (Kentucky Politician)
Thomas Metcalfe (March 20, 1780 – August 18, 1855), also known as Thomas Metcalf or as "Stonehammer", was a U.S. Representative, Senator, and the tenth Governor of Kentucky. He was the first gubernatorial candidate in the state's history to be chosen by a nominating convention rather than a caucus. He was also the first governor of Kentucky who was not a member of the Democratic-Republican Party. At age 16, Metcalfe was apprenticed to his older brother and became a stonemason. He helped construct the Green County courthouse, known as the oldest courthouse in Kentucky. Later, political opponents would mock his trade, giving him the nickname "Old Stone Hammer." His political career began with four terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives. His service was interrupted by the War of 1812, in which he commanded a company in the defense of Fort Meigs. Interstate 75 (I-75) is a major north–south Interstate Highway in the Great Lakes and Southeastern regions of the United States. As with most Interstates that end in 5, it is a major cross-country, north–south route, traveling from State Road 826 (SR 826, Palmetto Expressway) and SR 924 (Gratigny Parkway) on the Hialeah–Miami Lakes border (northwest of Miami, Florida) to Sault Ste. Kentucky Route 922
Kentucky Route 922 (KY 922) is a long state highway in northern Kentucky. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 27 and U.S. Route 68 in Lexington. The northern terminus is at Kentucky Route 620 north of Georgetown. From US 27/68 north to US 25, KY 922 is named Oliver Lewis Way. From US 25 north to U.S. Route 62, it is named Newtown Pike.
