Gardiner, Oregon
Gardiner is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Douglas County, Oregon, United States, across the Umpqua River from Reedsport. It is located on U.S. Route 101. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 248. Gardiner is named for a Boston merchant whose ship, the ''Bostonian'', shipwrecked at the mouth of the Umpqua on October 1, 1850. Gardiner was seeking to trade along the river, and most of his goods were saved from the ship and moved to the location that came to be the town of Gardiner. In 1851, the site became the headquarters of the Umpqua customs district, and a post office named "Gardiners City" was established the same year. The name of the post office changed to "Gardiner City" and eventually to its current name. The Gardiner Historic District, which encompasses nearly all of Gardiner,. has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1994.. Reedsport is a coastal town in northwest Douglas County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,310. It is located about 73 miles northwest of Roseburg, the county seat. History Reedsport was established on the estuary of the Umpqua River on January 7, 1852. It was named for a local settler, Alfred W. Reed, who founded the city in 1912. Winston, Oregon
Winston is a city in Douglas County, Oregon, United States, located 7 miles southwest of Roseburg. The population was 5,379 according to the 2010 United States Census. Winston is best known as the home of Wildlife Safari. History In 1920, Oregon Route 99 was completed, directly linking Winston with the nearby community of Dillard, which had previously been separated by the Umpqua River. In 1953, the city was incorporated under the name "Coos Junction". The first City Recorder (Gene Geyer) was employed. The following year, Paul Bender was appointed as the mayor of Coos Junction. In 1955, a new City Charter was approved, and the town was officially renamed to Winston. The Wildlife Safari was opened in 1972. Oregon Route 99 is a state highway that runs between the southern border of Oregon, and the city of Junction City. Oregon Route 99 was formed from parts of the former U.S. Route 99; it shares much of its route with I-5, but much of it is also independent. Between Portland and Junction City, the highway is forked into two routes: Oregon Route 99E and Oregon Route 99W. Days Creek is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. At the 2010 census it had a population of 272. The community was named after the local creek, which in turn was named for Patrick and George Day, who settled near its mouth in 1851.
