National Institute Of Korean History
The National Institute of Korean History (NIKH) is a South Korean national organization in charge of researching, collecting, compiling, promoting the study of historical materials on Korean history. It was established as ''Guksagwan'' (국사관 國史館) in March 1946, one year after the liberation of Korea and was changed to the current name in 1949. As a branch of the Ministry of Education, the Institute certifies and supervises drafts of history textbooks used in middle and high schools. It conducts educational programs for government officials and teachers of elementary, middle, and high schools. It also operates a school to train competent translators of historical documents written in classical Chinese and pre-modern Japanese. The Institute holds and supervises the Korean History Proficiency Test four times a year, and sponsors the annual Korean History Competition among middle and high school students. Empas
Empas (hangul: 엠파스) was one of the popular total internet search tools and web portal sites in South Korea. The service was launched in 1998 by Knowledge Plant Corporation (), which changed its name to Empas Corporation in 2004. The name ''Empas'' is a combination of ''e-media'' and ''compass''. Before its merger with Nate in 2009, Empas was one of South Korea's most popular web search engines, and competed with Yahoo! Korea, Daum, Nate, and Naver. Empas was the second most popular web portal in the country from 2000 to 2001, by unique page view, behind Yahoo! Korea. Since the dominance of Naver started in 2003, however, the market share of Empas declined, and by late 2005, it had fallen into the fifth place amongst the South Korean web portals. The ''Encyclopedia of Korean Culture'' is a Korean language encyclopedia published by the Academy of Korean Studies and DongBang Media Co. The articles in the encyclopedia are aimed at readers who want to learn about Korean culture and history, and were written by over 3,800 scholars and expert contributors — mainly associated with the Academy of Korean Studies. ''Munhwa Ilbo'' called it the most extensive encyclopedia of Korean studies. In 2001, the digital edition EncyKorea was published on CD-ROM and DVD. Annals Of The Joseon Dynasty
The ''Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty'' (also known as the ''Annals of the Joseon Dynasty'' or the ''True Record of the Joseon Dynasty''; ko, 조선왕조실록 and ) are the annual records of Joseon, the last royal house to rule Korea. Kept from 1392 to 1865, the annals (or ''sillok'') comprise 1,893 volumes and are thought to be the longest continual documentation of a single dynasty in the world. With the exception of two sillok compiled during the colonial era, they are the 151st national treasure of South Korea and listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World registry. Since 2006, the annals have been digitized by the National Institute of Korean History and are available on the internet with modern Korean translation in hangul and the original text in Classical Chinese. Korean History Compilation Committee
Korean History Compilation Committee was established in June 1925 by the Japanese government. It is also known as "Korean History Compilation Society", "Association of the Compilation of Korean History", "Korean History Compilation Bureau" or "Society of Compiling Korean History".
