National Forensic Science University, Delhi (Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology & Forensic Science) is the Delhi Campus of the National Forensic Sciences University and an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA), Government of India as recognised by an act of the Parliament of India. It is one of the Central Police Organization(CPO) of the country. It specializes in teaching criminology, cybersecurity, digital forensics and forensic science and is located in New Delhi, India. The institute was established by Government of India in 1972 within the Bureau of Police Research and Development following recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The institute was formerly known as "Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science" and came into existence on 4 January 1972. Crime in India has been recorded since the British Raj, with comprehensive statistics now compiled annually by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (India) (MHA). In 2021, a total of 60,96,310 crimes, comprising 36,63,360 Indian Penal Code (IPC) crimes and 24,32,950 Special and Local Laws (SLL) crimes were registered nationwide. Central Forensic Science Laboratory
The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is a wing of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, which fulfills the forensic requirements in the country. The locations There are seven central forensic laboratories in India, at Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Guwahati, Bhopal and Pune.
