National Disabled Women's Educational Equity Project
The National Disabled Women's Educational Equity Project was established by Corbett O'Toole in Berkeley, California, in 1980. It was a three-year research and demonstration project. Based at the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), the Project administered the first national survey on disability and gender. It also conducted the first national Conference on Disabled Women's Educational Equity, which was held in Bethesda, Maryland. It developed written materials for educators and counselors relevant to the needs of disabled women and girls. Corbett O'Toole
Corbett O'Toole (born 1951) is a disability rights activist. She had polio as a child. She ran the Disabled Women's Coalition office with Lynn Witt in the 1970s. She worked as a staff member at the Center for Independent Living in Berkeley from 1973 to 1976, and as a staff member for thDisability Rights and Education Fund(DREDF) from 1980 to 1983. On April 5, 1977, 150 disabled people stormed into the federal Department of Health, Education, and Welfare building demanding for disability people to be included in the 504 section. O'Toole was a participant in the 504 sit-in, which lasted for twenty-five days, and it ended in success. Of the protest, she said, "At that time in history, there was simply no access no right to an education, no public transit. You couldn't get into a library or city hall, much less a courtroom". Temple University

Disability Rights Education And Defense Fund
The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), located in Berkeley, California, and Washington, DC, USA is a national cross-disability civil rights law and policy center directed by individuals with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities. Founded in 1979, DREDF advances the civil and human rights of people with disabilities through legal advocacy, training, education, and public policy and legislative development. The Berkeley office is located in the Ed Roberts Campus.
