National Dirt Late Model Hall Of Fame
The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame is a non-profit hall of fame for United States, American drivers of Dirt track racing, dirt late model racecars. It is located on the grounds of Florence Speedway in Walton, Kentucky. History During 2001 while conversing with a group of people involved in the sport, longtime motorsports journalist Bill Holder decided to create the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame. The first induction ceremony took place later in August at Florence Speedway during their annual NORTH-SOUTH 100. Induction process Within the NDLMHOF, there are three types of inductees, each of which contributes to the sport in a different manner. The types are Drivers, Contributors, and the Sportsman Award. All of the inductees are elected by the vote of a Hall of Fame Voting Board on candidates that have been submitted. The voting board consists of voters from all aspects of the Dirt Late Model scene. Ed Howe (late Models)
Edgar Watson Howe (May 3, 1853 – October 3, 1937), was an American novelist and newspaper and magazine editor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was perhaps best known for his magazine, ''E.W. Howe's Monthly'', which he wrote from 1911 to 1933. Howe was well traveled and known for his sharp wit in his editorials. Personal life Howe was born May 3, 1853, in Wabash County, Indiana, in a community now known as Treaty. His father was Henry Howe, a farmer and Methodist circuit rider, and his mother Elizabeth (Irwin) Howe. Howe spent most of his childhood in Harrison County, Missouri, where his family moved when he was 3, first to Fairview, and then to Bethany around 1864. Howe's father was a vocal abolitionist, opposing slavery on religious grounds. When the Civil War broke out, Henry Howe joined to fight for the Union. Charles "Red" Farmer (born October 15, 1932) is a former NASCAR race car driver. He is a member of the Alabama Gang. Racing career His first race was at Opa-locka Speedway near Miami, Florida in a 1934 Ford in 1948. He became famous as a member of the Alabama Gang and he considered his hometown to be Hueytown, Alabama. Estimates of Farmer's career victories range from 700 to 900 victories, most occurring in the late 1950s and early 60's. He raced 36 NASCAR Cup Series races from 1953 to 1975. He won numerous championships at local tracks. Before racing in the Grand National series, he raced modified stock cars in the northeast. He was one of the first to transition from the modified series to the early Grand National Series. Ray Callahan (racing Driver)
Kenneth Ray Callahan (April 28, 1933 – September 2, 2017) was an American football player and coach. He was recruited by Coach Paul Bear Bryant at the University of Kentucky in 1952 under a full scholarship. Coach Bryant mentored him often taking him fishing and along on other recruiting trips to convince players to come to U.K. to play. He later coached for his alma mater as an assistant coach from 1963 to 1966. He then moved to University of Cincinnati as an assistant coach for 2 years before becoming the head football coach from 1969 to 1972, compiling a record of 20–23. His first pro team was in 1973 with the Baltimore Colts as a linebacker coach under former teammate Howard Schnellenberger. Callahan then took a chance with the World Football League Florida Blazers with Jack Pardee.
