National Council Of German Women's Organizations
The National Council of German Women's Organizations – German Women's Lobby (german: Deutscher Frauenrat – Lobby der Frauen in Deutschland) is a German umbrella organization for organizations concerned with women's rights and gender equality. It includes 62 member organizations with 11 million members. It was founded in 1951 and views itself as a successor of the Bund Deutscher Frauenvereine, that existed from 1894 to 1933. The National Council of German Women's Organizations also initiated the establishment of the CEDAW Alliance Germany, and serves as its host institution. Since 2021 Beate von Miquel has served as president of the organization. It is a founding member of the European Women's Lobby. Law reform or legal reform is the process of examining existing laws, and advocating and implementing change in a legal system, usually with the aim of enhancing justice or efficiency. Beate Von Miquel
Beate von Miquel (born 1968) is a German women's rights advocate and gender studies scholar. She is President of the National Council of German Women's Organizations – German Women's Lobby, Germany's largest organization that campaigns for gender equality and women's rights, with 11 million members. She is also managing director of the Marie Jahoda Center for International Gender Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum. She studied protestant theology, history and political science at the universities of Marburg, Bonn, Göttingen and Bochum, and holds a PhD in political science. Her research fields are gender studies, media history, corporate history and contemporary church history. Miquel has worked as an academic and civil servant in the field of equality and diversity in the university sector. The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet") is the German federal parliament. It is the only federal representative body that is directly elected by the German people. It is comparable to the United States House of Representatives or the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Bund Deutscher Frauenvereine
The Bund Deutscher Frauenvereine (Federation of German Women's Associations) (BDF) was founded on 28/29 March 1894 as umbrella organization of the women's civil rights feminist movement and existed until the Nazi seizure of power in 1933. Its creation was inspired by the founding of the World's Congress of Representative Women meeting on the occasion of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Several women from Germany attended this event: Anna Simson, Hanna Bieber-Böhm, Auguste Förster, Käthe Schirmacher. They took the example of the American National Council of Women as a model for the BDF. European Women's Lobby
The European Women's Lobby (EWL) is the largest umbrella organization of women's associations in the European Union, founded in 1990, working to promote women's rights and equality between women and men, and representing a total of more than 2000 organizations. EWL membership extends to organizations in 26 EU member states, three EU candidate countries, Iceland, and the UK, as well as to European-wide bodies. Transphobia
Transphobia is a collection of ideas and phenomena that encompass a range of negative attitudes, feelings, or actions towards transgender people or transness in general. Transphobia can include fear, aversion, hatred, violence or anger towards people who do not conform to social gender expectations.
