National Australia Bank Building, Dubbo
The National Australia Bank building is a heritage-listed former bank building located at 110-114 Macquarie Street, Dubbo, Dubbo Regional Council, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Laurie and Heath. It is also known as the National Australia Bank or the CBC Bank building. The property is privately owned and was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The National Australia Bank building was designed and constructed to 1907 by Laurie and Heath for the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Ltd. In 1979 the Heritage Council received from Dubbo City Council a request for advice concerning the proposed demolition for redevelopment of the CBC Bank. Following an inspection by the Heritage Office and discussions with the owner an Interim Conservation Order was placed on 25 May 1979. The Dubbo Regional Council is a local government area located in the Central West and Orana regions of New South Wales, Australia. The council was formed on 12 May 2016 through a merger of the City of Dubbo and Wellington Council as part of a widespread council amalgamation program. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans. The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Limited, also known as the CBC, or CBC Bank, was a bank based in Sydney, Australia. It was established in 1834, and in 1982 merged with the National Bank of Australasia to form National Australia Bank. Turret (architecture)
In architecture, a turret is a small tower that projects vertically from the wall of a building such as a medieval castle. Turrets were used to provide a projecting defensive position allowing covering fire to the adjacent wall in the days of military fortification. As their military use faded, turrets were used for decorative purposes, as in the Scottish baronial style. A turret can have a circular top with crenellations as seen in the picture at right, a pointed roof, or other kind of apex.
