National Art Education Association Women's Caucus is an interest group of the professional art education organization, the National Art Education Association. Mission “The NAEA’s Women’s Caucus (NAEA WC) shall represent and work to advance art education as an advocate of equity for women and all people who encounter injustice, and shall work to eliminate discriminatory gender and other stereotyping practices for individuals and groups, and for the concerns of women art educators and artists.” History The Women's Caucus became an official interest group of the National Art Education Association in 1975 under the leadership of art educator Judy Loeb as the first president of the group. National Art Education Association
The National Art Education Association (NAEA) is a non-profit professional association founded in 1947 in the United States, headquartered in Alexandria, VA. It is the world's largest professional art education association. The NAEA's annual convention attracts thousands of art educators and offers art educators a chance to network, establish mentor relationships, and attend professional development events. The NAEA also gives awards for Art Educator of the Year at this convention. Along with the Art & Creative Materials Institute, in 1969, the NAEA began sponsoring March as Youth Art Month. Since 1984, Youth Art Month has been run by the Council for Art Education, Inc., which consists of representatives of the NAEA and other art associations. As an advocacy organization, the NAEA speaks out in favor of increased funding for art education, and opposing cuts to art funding. Pennsylvania State University Libraries
The Penn State University Libraries consists of 36 libraries at 22 locations in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The two main buildings on Penn State's University Park campus are the Pattee and Paterno libraries. History The library's first permanent location was in Old Main, with 1,500 books in agriculture and the sciences. In 1904, the library was moved to the Carnegie Building (then "Carnegie Library"), which provided a 50,000 book capacity. By 1940, the library's collection had grown to 150,000, overcrowding Carnegie by three times its capacity. The library was permanently moved to the Pattee Library building. By the 1960s, the collection had grown to 800,000 books. The Pattee Library was renovated in the late 1990s, and in 2000, it was rededicated along with the new Paterno Library, a portion of which comprises the former East Wing of Pattee. June King McFee
June King McFee (died January 14, 2008) made many contributions to the world of art education, with her research and publications. Professor Emeritus June King McFee was Professor and Head of the Department of Art Education at the University of Oregon from 1965-1983. She started an internationally recognized doctoral program at the university. She is best known for advancing cultural understanding through the arts. In her book, ''Preparation for Art'', McFee "portrays graphically the range of individual differences in children's reactions to visual phenomena and visual arts." McFee believed in teaching art according to a child's needs. She created the "perception delineation theory" based on sociology, anthropology, psychology, and the needs of urban children. According to her theory, learning is a behavioral adjustment, and the education that society needed was guided change in behavior.
