Nathan The Wise (film)
''Nathan the Wise'' (german: Nathan der Weise) is a 1922 German silent historical film directed by Manfred Noa and starring Fritz Greiner, Carl de Vogt and Lia Eibenschütz. It is based on the 1779 play ''Nathan the Wise'' by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing. It was made by Bavaria Film at the Emelka Studios. The film provoked protests in Munich from far-right groups who felt it was too pro-Jewish.Prawer p. 20 In 2010 oud player and composer Rabih Abou-Khalil released a soundtrack composed for the film entitled '' Trouble in Jerusalem''. Plot One of the main works of the Age of Enlightenment, it is a powerful plea for tolerance, humanity and freedom of opinion. Manfred Noa
Manfred Noa (22 March 1893 – 5 December 1930) was a German film director. Noa was described by Vilma Bánky, who he directed twice, as her "favourite director". Noa's 1924 film ''Helena (1924 film), Helena'' has been called his "masterpiece" although it was so expensive that it seriously damaged the finances of Bavaria Film.Schildgen p.42 Noa is perhaps best known today for his 1922 film ''Nathan the Wise (film), Nathan the Wise'', an adaptation of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's 1779 Nathan the Wise, play of the same title, which made a plea for religious tolerance. He was the third husband of the actress Eva May, who was the daughter of his fellow director Joe May. Noa died 5 December 1930 in Berlin of peritonitis. Emelka Studios
Bavaria Studios are film production studios located in Munich, the capital of the region of Bavaria in Germany, and a subsidiary of Bavaria Film. History The studios were constructed in the suburb of Geiselgasteig in 1919 shortly after the First World War. During their early years they were known as the Emelka Studios, while Geiselgasteig has also often been used to refer to them. Rudolf Lettinger
Rudolf Lettinger (26 October 1865 in Hamburg – 21 March 1937 in Berlin-Schöneberg) was a German stage and film actor. He made his stage debut in 1883 when he played the role of Kosinsky in Friedrich Schiller's drama ''The Robbers''. Some of his more prominent roles in his prestigious stage career were ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' and Gessler in ''William Tell''. He also worked with acclaimed stage director Max Reinhardt. In 1912, Lettinger played his first film role in ''Das Geheimnis von Monte Carlo''. Lettinger appeared in over 90 films until 1931, mostly as a supporting actor. Yusuf ibn Ayyub ibn Shadi () ( – 4 March 1193), commonly known by the epithet Saladin,, ; ku, سهلاحهدین, ; was the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. Rabih Abou-Khalil ( ar, ربيع أبو خليل, born August 17, 1957) is an oud player and composer born in Lebanon, who combines elements of Arabic music with jazz, classical music, and other styles. He grew up in Beirut and moved to Munich, Germany, during the Lebanese Civil War in 1978. Musical style Abou-Khalil studied the oud at the Beirut conservatory with oudist Georges Farah. After moving to Germany, he studied classical flute at the Academy of Music in Munich under Walther Theurer.
