Nathan Smith (born 21 April 1983) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. He played at club level in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Canberra Raiders and the Penrith Panthers, as a or . Background Smith was born in Canberra, ACT, Australia. Career Smith's position of choice is as a , however, Smith has also played at second row and centre. He made his first grade debut for Canberra against the North Queensland Cowboys at Canberra Stadium on 10 July 2004. In his first season at Penrith, Smith played 24 games for the club as they finished last on the table and claimed the wooden spoon. Smith created headlines in the 2008 NRL season for reneging on a contract with the Canberra Raiders for 2009 and re-signing with Penrith. The St Marys Saints are an Australian rugby league club who were formed in 1908.St Marys''/ref> They were the founding Member of the Penrith District Rugby League. Ron Massey Cup
The Ron Massey Cup (formerly known as the Bundaberg Red Cup and Jim Beam Cup) is a semi-professional development level rugby league competition in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, run jointly by the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) and the Country Rugby League of New South Wales (CRL). The competition is run concurrently with the National Rugby League (NRL). It currently comprises 13 teams drawn from the Sydney metropolitan area. The competition is named after Ron Massey, a former rugby league coach. Ron Massey died 19 September 2016. The competition is an expanded version of the former Metropolitan Cup and Second Division competitions. The competition was renamed the Bundaberg Red Cup after the 2008 season (the last Jim Beam Cup season), after Bundaberg replaced former sponsor Jim Beam. 2010 NRL Season
The 2010 NRL season was the 103rd season of professional rugby league football club competition in Australia, and the thirteenth run by the National Rugby League. The season commenced on 12 March and ended with the Grand Final, played on 3 October at ANZ Stadium. National Rugby League teams, Sixteen teams competed for the 2010 Telstra Premiership whilst the third season of the 2010 NRL Under-20s season, National Youth Competition was also in progress. The 2010 season was marred by the Melbourne Storm's admission in April of systematically breaching the NRL salary cap. As part of the NRL's imposed penalties, the Storm were deducted all 8 competition points earned at the time of the announcement, and were barred from earning points for the rest of the season, guaranteeing them the wooden spoon. They have competed in Australasia's elite rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership since 1982.
