Nasa Silver Mine
The Nasa (Nasafjäll) silver mine ( sv, Nasa silvergruva), located on Nasa Mountain on the border between Sweden and Norway, was used for mining silver, mainly from 1635 to 1659 and from 1770 to 1810. Smelting occurred during the first period (1635-1659) at Skellefteälven; during the second period (1770-1810) at Adolfström in Arjeplog . History First Phase It was an indigenous Sami man by the name of Peder Olofsson who had made the first discovery of ore. The mine never delivered much silver: about 860 kg, plus 250 tons of lead. It was historically important, as it contributed to the development of infrastructure in this part of Lappland, most notably the Nasa trail and the city of Arjeplog. It marked the beginning of Sweden's efforts to become a major power. Nasa Mountain ( sv, Nasafjället, no, Nasafjellet, smj, Násávárre) is a tall mountain that is situated on the border of Sweden and Norway. It is located near Arjeplog in Arjeplog Municipality in western Norrbotten County in Sweden and near Dunderland in the municipality of Rana in Nordland county, Norway. There is a marker at the summit of the mountain denoting the border between the two countries. Skellefteälven
The Skellefte River ( sv, Skellefteälven or ; sje, Seldutiedno; sju, Syöldateiednuo) is a river in northern Sweden; one of the major Norrland rivers. Geographically, it starts in the Norrbotten County, also known as the Swedish Lappland province where it drains the lakes Hornavan, Uddjaur and Storavan near Arjeplog; then goes south-east into Västerbotten County, passing through the town Skellefteå (which has given it its name), and finally discharging in the Gulf of Bothnia, in the Västerbotten province. It is one of the major northern Swedish rivers, with a length of 410 kilometers. Like many large northern rivers, it has been cultivated for water power. Arjeplog (; Pite Sami: ) is a locality and the seat of Arjeplog Municipality in Norrbotten County, province of Lapland, Sweden with 1,977 inhabitants in 2010. It is a popular winter test site for the Asian and European car industries and featured on an episode of the British TV show ''Top Gear''. Arjeplog has in the past offered families 100,000 kronor, or individuals 25,000 kronor to move to the town. Climate Arjeplog has a subarctic climate ( Dfc) typical of northern Sweden.
